@holly. Hot tea with honey might help your throat.

Am curios how many as children got a mustard plaster put on their chest?
How about spoon full of caster oil?
yes we had mustard plasters when I was very small , I remember it was around the heavy snows of winter '62/3.. also my mother always gave us castor oil around that time too.. and each morning as we left for school she would stand at the door with a big jar of malt.. and shove a spoonful of that vile stuff in our mouths,. I think because we had so little to eat, she was trying to keep us alive

another thing I remember about that winter was having to wear a liberty bodice , a fleece lined vest, with rubber buttons...

...and also I remember my mum having TB, and she had to have piping hot kaolin poultices applied to her bare back

iiiiimmmm back!!!!! Nice to be missed...big gust of wind about
70mph hit us here in town, and took down that big tree down by street and my driveway, it took out all utility's and 2 poles
and a street lite....just now getting back online and heat going, I was getting cold as hades in here, and temp outside has drop
to 33F now, and it is now snowing !!!!! HOWS THAT!!!! WHAT A NITE!! I'LL POST A PIC OF THAT TREE IF I CAN LATER......RIGHT
NOW IS HOT CHOCLATE TIME!!!!:D:love::coffee:

Seems like I spent all day in the kitchen. Decided to make stew and a huge pot of soup. I gave away several of my storage containers so had to buy more. Also made copycat Red Lobster biscuits and couldnโ€™t stop eating them.

Also went to Hudsonโ€™s Bay, our iconic department store started in 1670. Knew it was in bad shape and thought our local one would last. Seems theyโ€™re all closing. Itโ€™s sad. I had a credit and wanted to use it prior to creditors declaring it their money. Bought a couple of pillows.

For a comparison for Americans, the Bay is similar to Macyโ€™s or Nordstroms.

Glad you're ok, @hawkdon.

We're fine here but won't know how much damage in the neighborhood until daylight. There was a lot of howling wind and things blowing around. AFAIK, there's no damage right here in our cul de sac. "Only" about 75,000 in the metro area without power and the closest tornado to us was about 10 miles away.

DD/DSIL slept downstairs last night. They wanted me to come over to their side of the house, but I just couldn't make myself move and figured if push came to shove, I'd just pull the mattress over me. Today is supposed to be sunny and much cooler than it has been.

@hawkdon, Iโ€™m relieved to hear that you are ok! ๐Ÿค—

Morning gang!!! Slept fairly well all things considered.. it is
33deg F out there, and it snowed off n on most of nite, but
hardly anything stuck, it is icy out so there will be traffic isssues...Plan for the day is to see what I can salvage from
the fridge, not that it was full of gormet food or anything...
I hope they will finish the tree cleanup today, but I doubt it
will be done till tomorrow...so no groc delivery for awhile...
Lordy that was a stressful 26 hours, my worry wart mother
would have been proud of me LOL..catch u later.....;)

Now that it's light outside, from what I can see from the back door is that...there's no damage! At least there's none in the garden. We'll see when I actually go outside.

DSIL has been off using up PTO for the past week and goes back to work tomorrow so I got ambitious and made sausage, egg and cheese biscuits for breakfast. Nobody's up over there yet, but he (and DD/DGD) will be tickled.

Heck, I even cleaned up the kitchen...washed the dishes and cleaned up the stove. Yay me.

Now I gotta rest for a few minutes before going out to tackle putting back everything that was battened down last evening. Oy. That's gonna be a lotta work.

I got to bed late last night, like usual on a skating day and got up late this morning, also like usual!

I'm just starting my coffee, and my day. It's supposed to be really nice weather today....good chance I'll be outside most of the day, working on getting rid of the next overgrown cedar.

I hope your day is going well! ๐Ÿ˜˜

Good Morning, Everyone ๐Ÿค— :coffee:๐ŸŒป

Hoping everyone has weathered or is weathering the storm(s) well and coming out okay on the other side.

We are expecting storms today, but nothing too bad. The dog walks might be a bit more eventful than usual, but I think not much more than that.

Glad to hear some have already come through okay, barring that tree. @hawkdon, that has happened to trees in my neighborhood during bad storms and it's always shocking, the power of nature.

Wishing everyone a good Sunday.
