You'll never guess what the assessment nurse told me...

At Christmas I had gel nails and expensive polish put on... was told by the nurse that I had to have them taken off... so that's going to cost £30...now, I understand why they have to come off..so i'll do that.

I was also told that as I'm having the surgery the day I go into hospital, I have to starve myself from the day before..and only drink water or juice.....again something you expect...
..but here's the rub... I have to pay to have my expensive gel nails removed.. starve myself.. and then she said...''just be aware than when you arrive on the morning ( 6.30am)... there may not be a bed for you ''..she said.. this is a bed blocking time of year, lots of elderly and people with winter illnesses... so there's a real possibility you won't get a bed.

Well I have never heard this before. I felt that if they've offered you the time and date for surgery, they've arranged a bed for you.. I could hardly believe what I was hearing.

I didn't question her because she's just the messenger, but afterwards i thought, good grief what is this country coming to..it's starting to feel like 3rd world ..

I'm not in the least bit happy, that I have to go through all the steps. paying to have my nails removed ,.. ( and being unable to drive to get my nails fixed afterwards for 4 weeks at least)... starving myself from the previous night.. and paying for a Cab to get me to the hospital on the morning( £65)... and then potentially being turned away !
No nail polish is a given as the blood vessels indicate your oxygen level plus polish can misdirected equipment.
Fasting - depends ding on your procedure the medical term does not want to deal with your dinner and anesthesia does not want you to jam up your breathing tube.
The rest is your healthcare system.
I am sorry to hear about all the hoops you are going through. Hopefully all will go well!

Oh that is totally me too, I remember my mom being annoyed when I asked who was a person in a group picture and it was my father. But if I saw him sitting in his recliner watching TV I had no problem recognizing him.
that's it exactly...it sounds like you have Prosopagnosia, same as me .... if you have then that's going to answer a lot of questions for you...

yes I know the reasons for the nails and the fasting and all of that..I'm not complaining about that per se.. I'm just saying that if I have to go through all that..then when I get there , there's no bed, I'm going to be more than unhappy...

Thank you for your best wishes...

All you can do is work with what you have. What are you going to do? Throw a tantrum or reschedule?
On the lighter side - try good stick on nails.

No you're misunderstanding..I have no intention of throwing a tantrum..or rescheduling..I'm simply pointing out that I'm having certain issues which are going to be costly, to prepare for the surgery..which might not happen on the day ...

As for my nails..I have perfectly good nails, i don't need stick on nails... it's just that at Christmas time I chose to have very expensive gels for the festive season... they cost £60 plus.... now I'll have to pay £30 to have them removed.. all fine if I knew for certain there was going to be a bed for me when i get there at 6.30 am on the morning of my surgery

It's the first time in my life that I've been given a date of admission into hospital , only to be told that when I arrive at the hospital on the day, they might not have a bed available!

Well, kids, this time tomorrow we'll either have dodged a weather bullet or we'll be without electricity. It's rare that we get an in-between; it's either a weather disaster or nothing at all.

DS/DSIL have a generator and did their grocery shopping this morning.

We have plenty of everything but no generator.

Think positive thoughts for us.

I'm the same I have so much of everything probably 2 or more of everything.. but no generator.... I keep promising myself I'll get one, and then I just can't see the need for a big expense I'd rarely use...

if we started getting regular power cuts, I'd probably get one

I think it will be something. Whether it is snow or freezing rain is the question. I am not prepared for a power outage. I have a fireplace but no wood.

This morning I did my nails and had a long conversation with my BFF. After that I washed my white clothes. I am now more caught up than I've been in a long time, but it's crazy that I've been retired for 27 years this month and still have never completely caught up with my laundry. Just as well... I'd run out of places to put everything if I did. 1736488461848.png

Tonight I put the washer and spinner away after they dried out.

Well we got up to 24F today and we kept full sun nearly the entire day. Several nights near 0 meant the car battery was too low to crank with the oil so thick. But at least it started right up using a supercapacitor jump pack. I went for a long, sunny drive to get groceries in the next town so I'm topped back up for now.

Good morning, boys and girls. Icy stuff starting to accumulate on grassy areas here but streets are okay probably for another hour or so. Everdamthang closed today...all the city, county, state, federal offices, all the schools either closed or doing online classes.

Of course, DSIL has this notion that he has to open up the center even though TPTB are pleading with people to stay the heck off the roads. Gotta wonder why he'd bother to open up when it's unlikely that any of his employees will work today or that any customers will be in. Local TV is showing the interstates with next to nothing moving from the north and plenty of fools driving up from the south.

It's not bad yet but bad enough that the local ABC station has pre-empted Good Morning America in favor of freaking out the viewers about the weather. Just since I started typing, the icy stuff has changed over to fat sNOwflakes, and TV is showing the interstates sNOw covered.

I finally finished binge watching Desperate Housewives last night.

DGS finally got home safe and sound sometime after midnight.

I need to think of something to do today. Hint: it won't be dusting. There's plenty of time to get it done before Easter:ROFLMAO:

Yes, that would be very unnerving but hopefully it's an unusual situation and it won't happen on your surgery day.
I notice they say at lot of things these days to cover their you know whats but it is almost always fine and will be for you, I'm sure.
Get a good picture of those nails before you have them taken off. It will be a memory of this time. 🤗

This morning around 6:45,temp was 19 with no wind, I walked around the building complex 1 time before breakfast watched as the sun was beginning to rise
I'm feeling 95% better,my friend Mary&I are going on our 1st 'road trip' in 2025, to Target need a couple of things,I wear a mask just out of habit
Yesterday afternoon, close friend, Marcia called asking if I could dog sit my 'buddy boy', Tage{pharoh hound} picking me up at 12:15. She& church staff member are going to lunch, I'll be bringing my lunch ,no doubt Tage will 'help' me finish it LOL!. I haven't been with him since mid Nov
This will be the highlight of my day

Well same here..Snow ..and solid ice... the snow pretty much all melted by lunchtime, but the ice remains...

had a text from my knee consultant secretary giving me a follow up appointment or Monday after I had the steroid injection in November..

Well Monday is the day I have plans to go out because the weather's going to be nice, and I had planned to go with my friend to a Vintage style shopping Village....that we've been meaning to go to for ages.

It's not the shopping we're going for it's the old Victorian style shops we're going to look at...

Anyway consultant can only do Monday.. so she's gonna get him to call me at home at 2.30pm... so I might have to stay home or go to the shopping village very early.. and get back early which will take the joy out of it really..it's a 60 mile round trip

Have some laundry to do today and light house cleaning, after spending 7 hours at the hospital yesterday for hubby's first chemo secession. It took over an hour to get to the hospital because of the road conditions. Blowing snow from the high winds kept covering the roadways. 12ºF right now. Glad I don't have to go anywhere today.

Current status, at 8:00 this morning....and it's still coming down!
I'm not sure how much snow we're gotten so far, but it's not expected to stop until some time after 10. At least it's not as cold, and there is almost no wind.

Right now, I'm not sure what I'm going to be doing today. I DO know that I'm not going anywhere!!!! I'm staying home for at least several days....until the roads are clear and dry!!

I feel like getting something "cleaned out", but I'm not sure what. There is no shortage of 💩 for me to go through...I just have to get started! Eventually!

On that note…. Here’s a current radar pic.

I’m the blue dot. My older daughter is just above the pink blob. She’s already sent pics of about an inch or so of snow where they are

Normally she would see patients today…. I asked, “you ever driven in snow?” She replied, “Nope and I ain’t starting today”. Good. Not the time to learn when there’s a chance of ice in the mix! ❄️⛄🧊
