No nail polish is a given as the blood vessels indicate your oxygen level plus polish can misdirected equipment. You'll never guess what the assessment nurse told me...
At Christmas I had gel nails and expensive polish put on... was told by the nurse that I had to have them taken off... so that's going to cost £30...now, I understand why they have to come off..so i'll do that.
I was also told that as I'm having the surgery the day I go into hospital, I have to starve myself from the day before..and only drink water or juice.....again something you expect...
..but here's the rub... I have to pay to have my expensive gel nails removed.. starve myself.. and then she said...''just be aware than when you arrive on the morning ( 6.30am)... there may not be a bed for you ''..she said.. this is a bed blocking time of year, lots of elderly and people with winter illnesses... so there's a real possibility you won't get a bed.
Well I have never heard this before. I felt that if they've offered you the time and date for surgery, they've arranged a bed for you.. I could hardly believe what I was hearing.
I didn't question her because she's just the messenger, but afterwards i thought, good grief what is this country coming to..it's starting to feel like 3rd world ..
I'm not in the least bit happy, that I have to go through all the steps. paying to have my nails removed ,.. ( and being unable to drive to get my nails fixed afterwards for 4 weeks at least)... starving myself from the previous night.. and paying for a Cab to get me to the hospital on the morning( £65)... and then potentially being turned away !
Fasting - depends ding on your procedure the medical term does not want to deal with your dinner and anesthesia does not want you to jam up your breathing tube.
The rest is your healthcare system.
I am sorry to hear about all the hoops you are going through. Hopefully all will go well!
