Morning Folks...

very cold start to the day... 0 deg .... it's semi sunny.. but the forecast is for snow later. I'm just getting my car ready to take to the garage for the annual MOT... The mechanic who was supposed to come and refit my front grille, hasn't come back despite 2 texts to him he's not replied.. so I'm going to have to get the garage to fit it.. and it'll cost me a huge amount in labour even tho' it's a 2 minutes job... they charge by the hour...

Fingers crossed my car passes, I could do without any expense this year .

Son and grandson come today. I will treasure today even more than usual, as the next three Wednesdays with grandson will be cancelled as my son will be home from work on these days. Grandson getting BIG so fast now. I remember that from my son's life too = they suddenly take off when they start school. My mother told me that about her own kids.

Morning folks....got up at 5am feel so-so today...not awake enuff to know for sure...sitting here with my New non spill
plastic lidded coffee cup that is SPILLING coffee all over the
place, grrrrrrrrr...coolish at 27deg, not going up much today either.....wont go outside for anything today....catch u later....

Well I thought i;d try and it the grille myself, I could but the sticking point is that the Ford badge has to come off the old one and onto the new one, and I think I might need a tool for that... so I daren't do it in case I break it..

I've just vacc'd the car, , now i'm having a cuppa tea, before I venture out to the Post office.. to collect a package of Printer inks

This is another story..

....I ordered inks well before Christmas they didn't arrive..I contacted the company after Christmas they said there had been an attempt at a delivery and a card was left teling me to collect at the Post office.. on the 16th.
I denied ever getting a card, and also told them I have a Video ring door bell and on inspection there was no deliveries made on that day..

they didn't reply, until yesterday when I told them they either send me the inks or refund me , or I will instigate a charge back with my CC company

They then tell me that after investigation with parcel force (Royal Mails'parcel delivery company)... that the delivery was not made to me but to a house ''around the corner''... and the not at home card was left there and the parcel was taken to a Post office.. and is still there... but will be returned today if not collected. ...So I have to get to the PO before it closes at 1pm...

Honestly I'm fed up wih the lack of professionalism with everyone these days

Today I'm waiting in for a re-delivery from Royal Mail - I don't know why they couldn't put it in the porch as usual. [Edit: it arrived shortly after I wrote that. Now for a walk to the village]

Enjoyed the festivities but, it's nice to be home.

Yesterday, I decided to go to the shops to get some fresh fruit and vegetables and, of course, I had a look around the sales but didn't see anything I was tempted to buy. Just as I was leaving, I spotted an oatmeal, wrap around cardigan, tried it on and it was perfect so, it is now folded in my wardrobe and I will be wearing it next week when I am meeting some friends although, if we get snow, it will probably have to wait until another day. Phew! I thought I was going to come home empty handed ;)

Early this morning, I was awoken by the most horrendous screams, it was coming from the green and, for a moment, I thought someone was being attacked but, thankfully, it was just a fox screeching.

Today, it is chilly but, as yet, no snow. I have no plans to go out. I am contemplating tidying my wardrobe and getting rid of anything I no longer wear. Scrap that! I might just think about it today and do it tomorrow! These things need careful planning you know :)

I'm back from the garage.
Got the bus back, because the test could take hours, they said they're very busy. Very often I'll just wait for the car to be ready or I'll go and have a coffee at the pub...but because they said they had a lot of cars in , I thought it best to come home and wait..

I asked if they'd fit the grille for me, and at first they said No, they were too busy and I'd have to book it in for another day .. but then they said they would, so I hope they do... they close at 5pm it's now 1.40pm.. and it means I have to get a bus back to town , so I'll have to look up the bus timetable

I stopped at the Post office on the way down, and got the Inks.. at last.. ....(y)

I have this every night, starts as soon as everything is quiet.. arounnd midnight or 1am..the foxes screaming, or the muntjacs .....some nights I have to turn the radio on to drown out the screaming and barking. I swear someone might be getting attacked one night and I won't know the difference

Well it;s bad news. My car has failed, on brake hoses . I paid over £300 for disks and pads this time last year.. with a different garage.. this garage is now telling me that whoever fitted the hoses put them on twisted. I'm absolutely furious, I don't know what to do about this now.. except I have to get the car repaired because it's unsafe.

The garage is going to see if they can get the parts delivered to them by the end of today ( only 2 hours let until they close).. and they will do the work tomorrow... it also needs 4 new tyres.. because they're starting to wear... ..but if they can't get the brake parts they'll need to keep my car until they can do it..

I am really peed off about this, not only the brake hoses, but the fact I paid £50 last Sunday to a mobile mechanic for a pre MOT check who said my car was in excellent condition :mad:

I got some sleep thanks to modern pharm. Out cold but I will only take one of the prescribed pills and that at night. A quick run to town for wine and cat litter. It will be freeze a.. Cold for a week. We are as set as can be.
Some house work, long hot tub, checking on friends, double rationale is for the birds, enjoy the last two days of our starvation to the fullest. Our ghost cats aka dust bunnies are a pride but vacuuming can wait until Monday. It has been years since we had so much time as December/January was my heavy load workwise.

I seem to have instigated a battle between 2 garages now...

The garage who have my car now are a national chain,...it's where I usally get my car tested every year but as I had to have a new exhaust and brakes last year I let the other garage do it..

Now the Chain Manger rung me said they couldn't get the hoses for today.. so they will have to keep the car until they can do it monday morning ..and with 4 new tyres ( budget tyres)..it's going to cost me £400......so I called the privately owned garage that fixed my brakes last year and told them that the chain garage say they are responsible for the twisted hoses...

they say no way... that the hoses are not touched when pads and disks are being replaced.. and if the hoses were twisted I'd have had no brakes....and that I should refuse to pay the £158 the chain garage is asking for the supply and fit of the hoses... and take my car to the private garage and they would look at it for free..

My dillemma is that they can't look at it until mid week.. and I need the car to go to hospital at the start of next week, and it's illegal to drive the car without a current MOT pass..... so I am going to have to pay the Chain garage to do the repair.. but I told the chain garage what the private one said.. ..and they've absolutely refuted the idea that the hoses wouldn't have been removed during the Brake pad and Disk replacements.. and asked me to give them the number of the garage, and they would speak to them direct... dear oh dear... what a tangled web we weave ...

One lesson... never try and rip me off.. for anything... because I'm like a dog with a bone, until I get answers... and results..

What about the tyres? I can't believe the mechanic you hired last week could possibly miss that they were not within MOT specs. It's a very simple measurement of tread depth. It's one of the first things your mechanic would check for. So, are they really in need of replacement as the National Chain shop said?

I wondered this too... they said that the tyres are not bald but they are splitting... I said I had all 4 replaced 4 years ago.. and really my car does very little mileage now, but they said it matters not whether I do much mileage..just sitting there in our weather conditions can cause the erosion..

I have no faith in the Mobile mechanic now.. he charged £50.. then said got me to order a new grille online.. which turned out to be the wrong one. thank goodness for the sellers who asked specific questions.. and I ended up paying twice for the grille.. total £55.. when it should only have cost £30 ( still waiting for my refund ) ... then he said he'd come back and fit it for free .. and he never came back.. so I don't have any faith in that guy either.

At least I know the Chain..they might not be entirely honest... but I know them, having had my MOT's done by them for many years... the only issue this time is that there's a new branch manager and the manager that I've known for decades and really trusted has moved on to be the area manager off 4 Branches now

This is where I miss my husband... he would have known right from the start who was BS'ing and who wasn't.. and he would have bought any parts needed himself..rather than allow the garage to charge retail price for them..which is what he always did..for all of our vehicles..

I absolutely hear you on that last paragraph

Sad that we're often caught in the middle on things like this where it's impossible for us to know who's being honest with us and who isn't :(

When you go to pick up your car, check the manufacturing date of the tyres they put on. A popular trick some places use is to pawn off tyres they've had in their inventory for some years or older tyers they got a deal on from the manufacturer. You want to make sure the new tyres they're installing are no more that 1 year (2 at the outside) old as rubber deteriorates with time even if not installed on a vehicle.

The mfg. date should be stamped on the sidewall of each tyre. (it is in North America anyway so I assume it's also in the UK) It's a 4 digit code - first two indicate week of the year they were made; second two are the year of mfg. (The tyre below was manufactured in the 39th week of 2009.)
At the very least if you let them know you're checking such a detail, they'll take note that you know a little something about what they should be selling you.

Yesterday, I ventured on a walk with doggie up to the wooded path since she did so well the other day. But this time she began panting after we got back. I did see that she stumbled a bit while we were out and came back right away. She's ok today.

I guess no more walks for my old girl.

Lots of robins chomping on the red holly berries on the bushes outside my kitchen window. Some won't migrate if there is food around in our North.

Storm Blair is not forecast to visit Connecticut at this time, but we never know that it may change. I hope the people in it's path stay safe.

thank you for that, that's incredibly helpful....(y)

your brakes would not work right if the hose was twisted, and probably your brake warning light would come on.
well this is what the small garage said.. they said you would have known there was something wrong because the brakes wouldn't work properly....if at all... but the Chain manager says not the case with a twisted hose if it wasn't leaking....which it wasn't

It's really annoying me to realise ONE of them is lying.. and it's really important I know which one.. for future
