Good morning, all; I am getting a bit of a late start today. I must start getting some work done, if only so I have decent monthly invoices to submit in a week or so.

I had a horrible, vivid dream last night that I relapsed and started drinking. It was one of those times when you wake up and are vastly relieved that it was all just a dream.

My happy event for today is my badly needed haircut and eyebrow wax. I had to reschedule twice because of (a) potential jury duty and (b) the prolonged government shutdown. I'm looking forward to getting tidied up and to catching up with my hairdresser.

One more decent weather day here until a storm blows in tonight. I'm envious of those of you who are in warmer climates. ☀️

((((Hugs))))... you're doing briliantly... you're a star in my eyes !

I've never really cared for Aldi, but the two closest ones to us are quite good for food and drink. The large one near my daughter is, however, disappointing when it comes to everyday items. I prefer Lidl.

The snow has gone and has been replaced by rain. I'm not sure which is worse.
I do too..I prefer Lidl much more.. but unfortunately there's no Lidl anywhere near my town... if I want to shop there I have to make a special trip to the next county.... where there's a really big one , and so I only ever shop at Lidl when I have other things to to do in the next county...

As I'm sure you are aware, we've got both Lidl and Aldi in the Borehamwood Shopping Park (or whatever it's called now, I still call it the Boulevard)

Separating those two German brands we have an M&S food outlet, and just down from those three is a B&M store. We've also got a Chinese food shop, a Pets At Home shop and a Poundland, as well as a Boots. We've lost our Argos and WH Smith shops though as well as the Debenhams we used to have.

So if you ever come over to BH then spend an hour or so wandering around the shops, and then you can sit down in the Costa for a nice coffee.

Today I'll attend to some business work, then will inventory my frozen cookie dough to see what needs making this week. At Saturday's party the gang nearly wiped out all the sugar cookies I'd made. I'll have to roll and cut out more of those because our preschool GS will likely spend a day here during the TG break, and he'll want to decorate cookies, for sure.

I know those shops..aside from the Chinese food shop which I don't remember being there ..that must have arrived after I retired. Debenhams was just closing down when I retired....

I try not to go to Borehamwood..my X still works at the studios and he lives on the ''high'' street.. so I don't want to bump into him...😖

Hubby & oldest son are off to get Hubby's car's engine rebuilt.
lots of things needed fixed before they got the car loaded & spare parts for it.

Nine hour drive drop off car & start back.
Probably see them some time Wednesday?

With no but the dog to bother me,,, I should be 'buzzing' around getting house clean or baking done.

Last load of washing is in the dryer,,,, now need to put away the dry clothes.
And dog is looking wishful for another long walk.

I'm looking at the couch,,,,,back needs rest..............nap???

Hope all is well with everyone.

Wow! 9 hour drive...at this time of year, not a pleasant drive I would imagine ! Hope they get there and back safely

People! Be nice! (For some reason, probably just-onset dementia, I find all this funny.) Or I will volunteer you to go driving with my son.

This is the man who was about to rear end the car in front of him. I said, that car is going slower than you are. He said, So, I'm going the speed limit. I said, you are going to hit him. Maybe I have dementia-by-association with my son. I hope I didn't just turn this post into a health topic!

This is a 21 year old car, 107,000 miles on it, only driven (until now) by my mom, me, and my daughter. Looks brand new. The goal is that a female in my immediate family will drive it until at least 200,000 miles ... and that it will still look new.

I let my housemate borrow my car to do a job this morning. He follows too close which makes me nervous. What if the guy in front jams on his brakes? I leave too much space which invites others to crowd in. The car came back in one piece. Remind me not to do it again.

I quit smoking many years ago but for some time I would have a dream where I started smoking again. It was such a relief to find it was only a dream.

I'm back from my trip to Costa Rica. It was a lot of fun (though required a lot of flexibility or at least 'grin and bear it'-ness).

At the hotel in Tortuguero National Park all the buildings and walkways were up on stilts and there were no glass windows, only window screens. There was 100% humidity and everything was damp. But, I only had 5 mosquito bites and it was an amazing place.

Then the tour took us to the Arenal Volcano area and we did hiking and ziplining (that exceeded my scary-limit and the Zipline place had to send a guy with me on all the long and steep sections, mortifying to be the only wimp of the group!).

And lastly we spent a few days in the Monteverde area, hiking the hanging bridges in the cloud forest (rains ALL THE TIME it seemed to me), visiting a sloth sanctuary, having a local cuisine experience where we all had to help make the food and tour their little farm.

I had a busy, productive day. After my son left for work, I sorted laundry. I went downstairs to wash around 4:50 a.m. While the clothes were washing, I came up...made wudu (ritual washing) and made my Isha (evening) prayer, which can still be made before Fajr (before sunrise prayer). After I brought the clothes up, I made Fajr. By then I was very hungry and thirsty, so I fed Deja then made a quick breakfast ( half a chicken and cheese sandwich).. I relaxed, played games on my phone, watched T.V. until after 10:30 then walked to the supermarket. I timed it that way to avoid traffic, which is pretty heavy around here on weekday mornings.

After I put the food away, I ate lunch and being tired, went to sleep. I wound up not drying the clothes until 5:00 p.m. I put most of them away since most of the garments got hung up as I removed them from the dryer. My son stopped at Costco so I put away those items this evening.

I'm ready for a quiet Thanksgiving with just DH and myself. I bought a turkey breast, a stuffing mix (I saw a taste test and Great Value for 97¢ scored high! - we'll see), Aldi's Sweet Potato Casserole, DH's green beans with baby potatoes, and a four pk.of Sweet Hawaiian rolls (He can have all of those). I'll make a basic pumpkin pie. All about easy.
Sausage gravy and biscuits for breakfast, a rare treat.
After dinner we'll watch "The Hobbit" in 3-D.
Every other year we have a family dinner on Thanksgiving. This is the "off" year but I'm feeling good about the quiet. 🙂

Yesterday afternoon,Connie called ,thanked me for making the 'welcome home' sign I put on her apt door
She was going to make dinner reservations for tonight, invited me,hopefully the guys can attend We can;t do it on Thurs, because of Thanksgivng the dining room is closed
On my early walk at 6:50 temp was a balmy 43 as I strolled around the building before breakfast
This morning at 10:30 will be attending monthly dining room committee meeting. The rest of my day read yesterday& today's NYT,hope to get another walk in before the rain comes
Everybody have a good day

Winter has arrived here. We got a small amount of snow, just a few inches, but the temperatures have plummeted into the teens and will soon be in the single digits. Time to turn on my little electric fireplace with the flickering "flames." (Too bad it doesn't come with sound effects.)

I woke up quite early, had a nice telephone chat with my father, who is in Florida, and am settling down to work. I'm excited about seeing my younger daughter tomorrow night for dinner and looking forward to NOT working on Thanksgiving for once and just taking it easy. The Beatles Anthology DVD series is being re-released for streaming tomorrow on Hulu, and I am ready! I've never seen it before. Ten hours of the Fab Four. 😊 Of course, I'm not going to watch it all at once.

Today should be a quiet day, and I'm glad. Right now it's time for coffee!

I hope everyone has a good day.
