How Many Billions Americans Will Spend On Valentine's Day?

After spending years in retail i will agree it is a farce....... one only needs to see a group reading cards and grabbing literally any flower/ candy etc run to register on their way home.... no thought ...no plan .........just the look of "I have to.".......... OR partner will be angry
Designed to part people from their money..... or for those dating...
The best gifts or showing a person you love them are unexpected and simple nice gestures at any time of the year....... IMO

This is what has ruined so many things the bigger / better/ more expensive gesture ...... the competition factor ...
This year where will many boast about their gifts .... probably facebook etc .....spent many years in a office and that day after....... some ( mostly women) comparing how fancy of dinner or how big the bouquet...... etc
Men also loved to tell tale tale of the lengths they went to impress......

I hate valentine's Day. Bah!! Humbug.!! Where's a puppy I can kick? I just never liked that day. When I was a kid, it hurt if you didn't get as many Valentine cards on your desk as some other kids. And when you got older, your statements of 'love' may not be returned on that day. Now, throw into the made up holiday, the greed of card companies, chocolatiers, and jewelers. I could live with all that, except for the crummy movies that so called 'holiday' has spawned. Those schmaltzy flicks always have a super rich Adonis type, who falls for a young widow with a crippled kid. And there's the compulsatory scene where they are riding white horses on a beach. Oh gag.
Aw. Bah. Humbug

The hubby and I exchange cards which I put on the refrigerator door for a week or so. After that I make tags for gifts if possible. We generally order Chinese food that day. I'm not sure how that started probably because of the Chinese New Year and to give me a day without cooking.
I make him his favorite chocolate pie for his evening snack and call it a day.
Not very excitingRon.JPG but it works for us.

My only problem with Valentine's day is that the people that can afford it the least tend to go overboard and spend the most.

Share a heart-shaped bologna sandwich and be happy.

When I was a wee lad in grade school, every kid would take a shoe box and cut a slot in it where others could put valentines cards that they made. Valentines day was a really big deal back then but lost its luster once you had to spend good gas money to give some girl a card or candy. Gas money was the key to meeting lots of girls.

I, for one cannot wait for this holiday to arrive. I love it!

We don't spend all that much. We spend more on our anniversary ~ February 8th!

This year I ordered him a box of goodies from a coffee shop. Total spent: $12.00

Happy Valentine's Day to those who do celebrate the day.3748f8f7fdc532260ca4b77b6eda08fa[1].jpg
