How many digits to the right of the decimal ?

I think we use the dollars-and-cents system as the role model for lots of uses. That means two digits to the right of the decimal. Mostly, that is no great problem. I remember years ago, on the job, when a unit head had the computer programmers change his print-outs to carry three to the right instead of two. That was silly, because if the programmers accurately reflected our reality, instead of having two to the right, they would have none to the right. That means rounding off to the nearest whole unit. But each usage is different. There may be specialized uses in which six digits to the right is proper.

If you are talking about financial reports. It's always two digits to the right and that is accurate because you can balance your cash drawer to the computer records.
But in Canada now I don't know how they handle it because Canada has dropped the penny so it's rounded off to the nearest nickel.
I don't miss the penny at all.

Years ago I remember reading about a programmer in a bank that used three digits to the right when calculating interest on customers savings accounts and truncating the third digit instead of rounding it. The truncated amounts were accumulated and swept into an account in the programmer's name at the end of each day.

That's where I was gonna go with it.
The incentive of a busy mind.

Seems there was a movie about it...Office Space...I think is the name of it

Yes. We chucked our copper penny and I don’t miss it either.
