How much is a oil change on your vehicle?

The Cadillac dealer in AZ charged approx. $100. Now, in Ohio, local Chevy/GM dealer charges $50. Both include tire rotation.

OTOH, $190 to have a head light bulb replaced..

It depends on whether you want regular or synthetic oil, with the synthetic being in the ballpark of around $60+, and regular oil a bit cheaper...

I buy 6 quarts of oil and a filter and change it myself. Just changed the oil & filter on Monday, plus the air filter, lubed it and topped off the fluids.

$59.99 with tire rotation, etc...

They always give me a $5.00 off coupon that I try not to lose before the next oil change.

I drive less than 4,000 miles/year and have the car serviced twice a year so they don't always bother to do a tire rotation but they do always manage to charge me for it. I don't mind because the techs always point out things that may need to be done before the next annual inspection. I've taken the recommendations with a grain of salt and always done my own research, comparison shopping, etc... So far they have been correct on the issues and within the ballpark on the costs involved.

An oil change is really not that difficult....If you know anyone who can teach you, you can save yourself a lot of money, and know it is done correctly. ChrisFix on 'youtube' has one of the best self-help instructions, and goes into detail on many automotive advice!

Pretty tough job for an amateur without the necessary equipment. You have to get under the vehicle to drain the old oil. I wouldn't recommend it for an old guy like me.

I've changed my own oil/filters since I started driving....decades ago. At today's prices, I can usually figure on about $25. I'm going to be watching the stores, and if the prices come down, due to this crude oil mess, I will buy several 5qt. jugs, for future use. Right now, the price is about $18 for a jug of Pennzoil, but a few years ago, it was about $11.

Like you, I'm keeping an eye on local oil prices. When low enough, I'll stock up again on Rotella 15/40 diesel oil. I buy it in 5 gallon pails, and I use it in all my cars, motor homes, Harley, mowers, wood splitter, portable generators, and of course the tractor and the backhoe. I discovered years ago, that running this oil in gasoline powered cars will not hurt them at all. In fact, due to the immense heat that diesels generate, their oil doesn't break down as fast as other mineral based oils, therefore it helps gas powered stuff especially in high heat areas. Now, synthetic oils are a whole different story.

Yup. I use Rotella in my tractor, too....works great. I have used Pennzoil in my vehicles for as long as I can remember, and "knock wood", I've never had any engine problems....so I tend to stay with what works for me. If I see 5qt. jugs selling in the $12 or less range, I will probably buy several. I wish Rotella would start selling 5qt. jugs, instead of 4qt. I always have to buy a jug and a quart to do my tractor....and I'm far too old to try to lift and balance a 5 gal. jug without spilling half of it.

Interestingly, We have a Mercury Sable/2005 very low mileage, and in my case, I wish that oil containers would be available in 4 1/2 quart containers, as this is what this model calls for, with complete change with filter...Wonder what genius at Ford Motor company decided to not use a full 5Q for an oil change...Really!

I hear you Don M. I don't look forward to the day I can't balance those 5 gallon pails too. Sometimes the wife will come out and snicker at me while I'm balancing a 5 gal bucket while dancing around on the hood of my tractor uttering words that would make a sailor blush. :D Same when she see's me with a 5 gallon fuel jug dumping diesel all over the hood (and my shoes), while standing on the hood. :ROFLMAO:
You know what they say. "twerent funny, but we all laughed".
