I was waiting in line at the market & noticed one of my favorite snacks from years ago. I used to have these almost every day - sometimes two or three.
Out of curiosity, I checked the label to see how much sugar was in one - especially since they are half the size they used to be. Back then, there were no nutrition labels on food.
74 grams of sugar - almost as much as two cans of a soft drink. At their previous size, they would be around 148 gms sugar each.
"Two or Three of them?" It's a wonder I'm still here. 😊

How many carbs is in that thing?

480 total calories
71 grams of carb = 284 calories = 59.2%
4 grams of protein = 16 calories = 3.3%
20 grams of fat = 180 calories = 37.5%

My diet has at least 80 plus percent of calories from carbohydrates and I have focused on eating this way since 1974, although I did similar before that but was not so conscientious and aware about doing it. I don't like a high protein content, and especially avoid any foods that are high in fat, which includes any food with more than 5% of calories from fat. Thus I would consider those pies to be a high FAT food, not one that is high in carbohydrates. However, the type of carbohydrates is important as well.

I used to eat those in community college. 😬

They were not only larger in the good old days, they contained less processed sugar. The "old" ones got a lot of their sweetness from actual fruit. The new ones are filled with thickened fruit-flavored syrup. A few years ago I ate a cherry one that had a couple sugar-soaked cherries in it. That was the last time I ate one.

Being diabetic I don't eat much in the way of simple carbs., grains, starchy white things. I do eat complex carbs, like a green salad, veggies. Upon T2 diagnosis I changed my diet and ate mostly protein and fat to slate the hunger. It was a LCHF diet. With the addition of exercise I went from weighing 278 lbs. to 213, and have maintained that weight for 7 -8 years now. I am 6'5''. Last HbA1c was 5.3, with no meds., and that's a little higher than in recent years. The fats I still eat are what I consider to be good fats, like olive oil, butter, and natural fats in things like salmon, beef, poultry, and pork.

I am not a dietician but it works for me.

I used to eat those pies as well. I wouldn't touch one now.
