How old is your Desktop/Laptop?

This Mac Desktop.. is about 10 years old now... but doesn't look or act like it....

OTOH... my Toshiba Laptop ( windows) is more than 15 years old... still works but is incredibly slow as you can imagine...

Same here Holly, mine is a Toshiba L750. How old is it? I'm not sure, I think that the Romans left it behind. It never runs slow though, that's because before logging off I always delete: History, browsing data, temporary files, cookies, web information, all browsing history and embedded adverts. Some smart Alec school kid taught me that, and despite my limitations the same kid taught me how to trace a virus and, how to deal with it. The computer runs as fast as it did new, which was about the speed of abacus counter beads.

that looks the same as mine. Mine does runs slowly despite clearing history and cookies everytime before I log off... and my husband giving it a thorugh deep clean on a regular basis..amidst a lot swearing.. ( he's got a technical mind)...but I have a lot of files on mine.. and because it's probably got windows 10 on it and it's so old it does work slowly.. . Incidentally you should get yourself a good Ad blocker..I never get ads..on the laptop or my Mac...

The Lenovo Thinkbook is about 3 years old, the Lenovo Ideapad is 1-1/2 yr.s old. I have an older Dell Inspiron 15, it still works, has a fairly new battery. I don't use it much anymore, it's still a powerfull machine, but it's a tank, weight 2.75 kg ( = 97 oz / 6.06 pounds).
I built 2 desktops last year, a Gigabyte B560M with Intel i5-11400F, 32 GB of DDR4 RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 video card. The other is an Asrock Z590 Extreme, also has Intel i5-11400F, 32 GB of DDR4 RAM, GeForce RTX 2060 video card + GeForce GTX 1080 ti video card.
I have numerous other out-of-service desktop machines that vary in age, oldest one being an Intel skt 423 P4 that I built in 2000.

Just above the web page mine reads: "To get future Chrome updates, you'll need Windows 10. This computer is using Windows 7."
It's like the laptop is repremanding me for being so stupid. I cannot do what every child in the country finds, well, childsplay!

well tbh..I'm not great either..... and the only reason kids can do it is because they learn it from the age of 5...

That's true, and phones are, mini laptops, well others are, I still haven't cracked that yet either. My wife and I were shopping for some items recently, we are off to a festival over the August holiday. Buying five items at over ÂŁ150 earned us a 12% discount. The young lady at the till started to press buttons, first she had to deduct the 20% tax, then discount the result by twelve percent, then add 20% tax to the discounted figure before coming up with what we had to pay.

Before she had pressed the first button I wrote down the answer, turned it over face down in front of her. She now turned my answer over, it matched her own. "How did he do it?" She asked, "He sat in a classroom at five years old and repeated Once two is two, two two's are four............." My wife explained. It went right over the young lady's head.

Many problems with older computers are often caused by PEBKAC .
PEBKAC
Short for problem exists between keyboard and chair, PEBKAC is a term used by computer technicians and IT professionals to describe a user error. The term asserts that the user is to blame when referring to the technical issue at hand; not the installed software or the device itself. PEBKAC may be considered an unkind term as it is usually directed at computer users who have made a mistake. But of course that is not directed to anyone here:sneaky::sneaky:

A 2 year old MacBook Pro M1 - my retirement present to myself.

A 10 year old iMac desktop for recording and music production.

A 14 year old HP laptop, originally Windows 7 updated to Windows 10 - still limping along with a battery life measured in minutes...

Windows computers have a menu where you can tell it to optimize for performance and it disables things like cute mouse trails and shadows, and sometimes it really makes a difference.

Dang, Nathan. Can you build me one!? I am using a friend's old laptop. It's got Windows 8.1. ugh. But am going to buy a new Desktop soon. I want lots of Ram, a great video card and a huge monitor. Then I'm going to max it out with the best protection/security/privacy, etc.

We referred to that as a PICNIC error, "problem in chair not in computer". We also referred to operator errors as "ID10T" errors ( i d 10 t).

I'm using a Cybertron PC that's going on 4 years old. Windows 11, i9 processor, 32 GB Ram, Nvidea 2060. Seems to run fine so far. I use CCleaner to keep the junk to a minimum.
The best way to speed up an older system is to upgrade to an SSD (solid state drive). The difference is quite amazing.

Old Desktop Windows ME - not used now but full of stuff - just over 23yrs old
Acer laptop XP ununsed but full of stuff - about 20yrs old (one of my favourites)
Forget the makes without serarching for them, but 2 laptops one with XP (another favourite) and Vista (hated that) - both blackscreened
Toshiba laptop Windows 8.1 (favourite), still used 11 yrs old
cheap Asus laptop Windows 11 (not impressed), just bought it :(

Second hand HP laptop. Model escapes me but it's about 6 years old. Had to replace just one item, the battery which was just a tenner.

Haven't used it since the day husband died, so over a year now. Once I get quiet time again, I'll probably get back on it to see how things are lol...
