"Dozens of cities implemented face mask orders and curfews and locked down for two to three weeks, temporarily closing schools, libraries, theaters, movie houses, dance halls, churches, ice cream parlors and soda shops. The virus killed about 195,000 Americans during October alone." People still decided to have their family Thanksgiving dinners and other celebrations but that day saw a surge in cases in some cities. Variations on the repeating-history theme appear alongside debates about attribution. Irish statesman Edmund Burke is often misquoted as having said, “Those who don’t know history are destined to repeat it.” Spanish philosopher George Santayana is credited with the aphorism, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it,” while British statesman Winston Churchill wrote, “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”

I think we can expect a "thanksgiving spike" around mid December, and another in mid January when the effects of Christmas travel and gatherings appear. There just doesn't seem to be enough concern about this virus among millions of our people, and the "joys" of the holidays may quickly turn into family tragedies.

Our family cancelled this years "feast", and we will just phone each other tomorrow...and have a routine meal at home. Christmas is still up in the air, and may well turn out to be just a short visit to drop off presents for the small children.

At the rate this virus is spreading, I think we can expect to see today's numbers doubling by Spring....and it will be at least several months before enough people are vaccinated to make any appreciable difference....and THAT will depend upon these "rushed" vaccines working.

The same here..... :( :(

My grown son lives with us, but all our other living relatives are siblings and their children. It's a two day drive to see any of them so it's actually been about five years since we got together. So this year will be nothing new.

I feel really sorry for those of you who have elderly parents or grandchildren, but can't be with them.
