How reliable is what kids are saying?

When my daughter was 7 years old, we flew from Los Angeles to Brussels over Winnipeg, Hudson Bay, Greenland, off the coast of Iceland, and Scotland. Over Greenland, from about 6 miles altitude, she started counting white polar bears on the white ice sheet. I just smiled. But I also remember stories that preschool teachers got into legal trouble based on what children in their care "fabricated."

Polar bears aren't white. Their skin is black. Their fur is translucent; it can appear white (or not), depending on the environment and how the light falls.
