How toasted is your toast?

Once upon a time, at Canadian Forces Base Borden, the toast was not only burnt, but also soggy. How did they do that ? Toaster did 50 slices at a time, then the slices were put into a tray over a steam table with a cover over them. Yuck. I opted for the bagels, which were fresh baked on the base. Some CFB galleys have better food than others. The RCN base in Vancouver had out standing Chinese dinners about once every 2 weeks all made by the service cooks. CFB Gagetown in New Brunswick had great seafood dinners on Saturdays in the summer. JimB.

You reminded me of the toast my mom made for us, on the bottom tray of the gas oven,(broiler?)
so it only toasted on one side.

Growing up, we even had a name for it, 'Jacksonville Toast' since that's where we live at time.
(just something we kids did to anchor a time and place where we lived, city had nothing to do with it.)

This is how I make toast in our counter-top oven thing. Comfort toast for me

So the toast is perfect for me, but I like my steaks medium rare. 😉
Interesting. That's what I was wondering because I would have said for me ... I'm med-rare on both toast & my meat but based on your response I suppose there isn't a correlation necessarily.
