How We Cope with Pain

i have sciatic issues, use a foot rest by sofa. (my hope is to buy a recliner in next couple of years). But where i most need to support legs are when sleeping. So even when 'made' my bed looks like a gnome or something is trapped under the covers. i have a fairly high pain threshold which isn't always good at this age, i don't always realize how seriously i've injured myself.

I'm in my 60's, and very active .. but suffer from lower lumbar herniated discs, so at night I have to sleep with a small pillow between my knees to prevent the weight of one leg on top of the other causing my back to go into spasm..and equally I have a very painful right knee, so here under my desk I have a raised footstool... so I can straighten my knee when the pain gets too much for me...

This week I've just been informed I have a Cyst on my kidney, which is causing me lots of discomfort.. but what can you do..except carry on as much as you are able ...

I prefer opioids and thc. Not for everyone, ok, but for me it works the best.

eta--I recently began working with a pain specialist and he used acupunture, & the needles were medicated with cortisone(?)

Medicated needles? I've never heard of that.

I got good results with acupuncture. I also get good results with opioids. I've considered talking to my MD about cannabis, but I'll bet CPS wouldn't let me have Paxton weekends if I used it, even if it's prescribed. (and even tho his mother uses it, prescribed)

In the past, I've had electrified needles for acupunture. They gave off electrical stimulation when placed.

My acupuncturist talked to me about that, but I think I was only covered for needles that don't have super-powers. Only 12 sessions are covered annually, so now I have to wait until next year to start sessions again. But then I think they'll cover unlimited sessions.

I had severe pain in my lower back. Went to Pain management, they tried steroid shots. Didn't work.

So he put me on the table in OR on my stomach. I had an I.V. so they put something in it to almost put me to sleep. Then he started burning the nerves with radiofrequency so the pain would be gone. So far no pain. I was using six 650 mg Tylenol a day to take the pain from 15 down to 8. After I got off the table NO pain. An still no pain.
Can't use Naproxin or ibuprofen because of my CKD of 3 in the kidneys. The kidney Dr. said to never use any of those if you don't want to be on a dialysis machine.

Best cure I've found for pain is to just ignore it and go on with one's life. We MUST accept what we cannot change. When sitting in front of my PC and doing anything, the pain "goes away."

In my meditational group we had a saying: "Where the attention goes the energy flows". Hospitals would give me pain meds to take home after surgeries but i found playing Tetris or other games on Nintendo worked quite well.
