Hundreds defrauded in door-to-door Ontario scam

A few years ago, there was a guy at my door with the spiel that he was paving a driveway near me and he could give me a great price on the unused tar. He could do my driveway today for cash. One of the weird things was he kept blocking my view of his license plate. Luckily, I knew you needed to prepare a driveway before you dumped tar on it. Also he kept talking and talking. I thought I heard the locked back door jiggle. Later when he was leaving my cal de sac, there were two guys in the truck????? I called the cops.

Thank goodness your back door was locked!

I want them to look in my house and see there's nothing much to steal. No jewelry or state-of-the art electronics. The only things we have of high value are paintings and they would never realize it.

That "tar your driveway" thing is an old scam used a lot by travelers. It can be scary when you're home alone and suddenly find yourself talking to someone shady.

Here is the most important fact about the OP's news story. The Ontario Provincial Government declared that all of these LIENS were now null and VOID as of June the 6th of this year. In simple terms, the Province has ruled that all of them are revoked. Three men have been arrested and other Canada wide arrest warrants have been issued . Kudos to the Province for acting directly and forcefully in this matter. JIM.
