Hurricane Laura is expected to strengthen into a Category 4 as it heads for a destructive landfall near the Texas and Louisiana border Wednesday night into early Thursday morning. A catastrophic storm surge and damaging winds will batter the region and a threat of flooding rain and strong winds will extend well inland.
Residents along the upper Texas and southwest Louisiana coasts should finish preparations now for a major hurricane strike. Follow any evacuation orders issued by local or state officials.

It's hard to convince some people in harm's way to leave their homes. .. and it seems many decided to stay. .. For some of those, their excuse is the pandemic. ??
The winds have picked up to around 150 miles an hour in the eye now ... the storm is going to carve a path well north of the coast where it goes in tonight.
 
I just saw on the news that it's likely to hit as a Cat 5. There are fools who don't believe it's unsurvivable so they boarded up their windows and are staying. Brilliant. They've been told to write down their names/addresses/SS #/next of kin, put the info in a waterproof zipper bag and keep in a pocket so they can be identified when their bodies are found.
 
Whoo boy, Houston TX was my next-to-last assignment with home-visiting hospice... can’t imagine what they are going through, trying to get everyone safe and provide care.
 
If any of you have ever watched the show Swamp People you will know who this is. She is a very down to earth woman, very likable.

Well, then I understand why they stay through the inconvenience of a small thing like a hurricane -- it's the lovely weather the rest of the time!

Seriously, we were stationed a couple of years in Alabama and though it was gorgeous -- all the greenery and flowers and magnolia trees, etc. -- I thought the heat and the humidity were going to kill me. Not to mention the enormous bugs and mosquitos and snakes. There were even snakes in ponds and lakes. It sure was gorgeous there, though. Bring from a desert area, I really appreciate greenery.

I had a steady stream of sweat dripping from my nose and beard when down south
Didn't matter if I was working or just sitting

Even when the sun went away.....and it rained....still hot.....wet hot
Loved the south, however
The wimin were just as hot
 
I lived in Louisiana for awhile and in high humidity when I went outside my clothes would be damp in 2 minutes, I hated that.

My cousin lives in LaSalle parish, north of Alexandria, lots of wind damage in her area. They were told it would be about a week before power is restored. Tomorrows heat index is going to be 100-105. 😢
 
After dealing with the hurricane now extreme heat and without power. My heart goes out to all residents in LA and TX.

This is not the best news for those of us without power.
There is a heat advisory in place with feels like temperatures near 110.

Well, not quite that bad but one thing is for certain we don't spend 20 minutes getting dressed to go outside to shovel snow. I'll take blow over snow any day!!
The good news about Laura is those that stayed behind nearly all are well with only six deaths. Amazing.

Me, for some reason, I much prefer spending 20 minutes to dress and digging out

I'm with you, Gary. All that heat and humidity is just so uncomfortable, makes me impatient and grouchy (and if it gets too bad it makes me feel ill) and justs saps my oomph. I used to get up at 4:00 AM during the Alabama summer to do housework before it got too hot to move, not that it really cooled off a whole lot at night anyway. Even with air conditioning it was still miserable and the electric bill when running the refrigerated air was about 7 zillion dollars a month.
