Hurricane Reporter Get Whacked With Flying Debris in Hurricane Florence

Finally! A reporter standing out in the storm because the network needs ratings got hit with sheet metal off a building under construction. I have always hated the networks for forcing reporters to stand out in storms where they are fighting to stay on their feet in 100+mph winds. Yet they have the gaul to tell people "be safe". Ridiculous. Why not demand reporters stand in the line of fire in police shootouts!!?? By the way the reporter was not injured.

I was just wondering about this myself. I was watching some guy on the weather channel getting slammed by the storm while trying to report from wherever he was. I couldn't really understand him, just heard a lot of rain and wind. Once I saw a news reporter standing on the highway during a snow storm and all I could think was "cars do slide on snowy surfaces."

I agree it is very dangerous and much of it appears to be staged or overly dramatic.

lol, I just saw a reporter on the Weather Channel who seemed like he was barely hanging on in the wind and rain. Behind him you can see two young men in shorts casually strolling around while talking on their phones. I tried to find the clip of that report. Hopefully it will be available later on.

Are they told to stand out in the weather, or do they
do so to show the people in the studio just how bad
the weather is and how difficult the job is?

Mike.

Does it take a person risking their life to prove there is a storm outside? We pretty much knew that when Harvey hit here last year and we saw houses flying through the air and 6 feet of water in our back yards.

Life imitating art, perhaps? There was a scene in a disaster movie, The Day After Tomorrow, in which a reporter was struck and presumably killed by a huge airborne sign...
