Hypnosis for quitting smoking

My husband has tried so many times to quit smoking and just gone back to it time after time. Has anyone tried hypnosis for quitting smoking? Was it successful?

There’s both a mental and physical component to the addiction. The only way that it works is you have to WANT TO QUIT. Without that it’s very tough to do. Getting over the physical addiction is just a mater of gritting your teeth for awhile. The only thing that will keep going after that is having the will to want to quit.

I don’t believe hypnosis can help the physical part but maybe it can help the mental or the want to quit part.

He always WANTS to. Then he wants "just one" to calm the craving. Before long he's buying another carton.

+1 for wanting-to-quit being super important.
In my 45+ year smoking 'career' I attempted to quit, cut-down etc. numerous times, only to fail because I didn't really want to.

12 years ago I quit, had been sick with the flu and had not smoked in 3 days. I just told myself- "let's do this" and never....ever touched tobacco again.

Reminds me when I suffered a heat stroke on May 20, 2013. Went to hospital, stated overnight. I then was so sick for the week, no drinking, eating or smoking.

After a week, I thought "Let's see how long I can go" May 20th 2023 will be 10 years of freedom. Praise be!

I have met one guy who went through it, he quit same day, he's probably going on 20 years now.

I'm just wondering if hypnosis will help with quitting since he seems to lack the will power to stop on his own.

Short answer is no. I wouldn't waste the money on it personally.

Has he considered/tried other quite smoking aides such as NRT (nicotine replacement therapy) products or prescription products like Zyban/Champix? There's many products that help with the physical withdrawal symptoms but in the end, the person quitting has to be fully committed to changing their daily lifestyle to exclude cigarettes and that takes awhile before you're completely comfortable as a non-smoker.

When it comes to quitting smoking there's only 1 very simple rule that applies to everyone ... Once you quit it's NOPE; short for Not One Puff Ever. Someone once put it this way: One is too many yet 1,000 cartons is not enough.

I tried hypnosis. It only worked for about 3 days, but the thing is, it was done by my anesthesiologist while I was being anesthetized for a surgery. Hypnotism was something this guy did when you had surgery...if you wanted him to. I was told that some of his patients lost weight and quit smoking with his help.

It didn't work for me in that circumstance, but I've often thought about getting hypnotized while I was just sitting in a chair, or whatever...at a hypno-therapist's office.

Smoking is a huge physical addiction. Especially with everything they put in cigarettes today.

I wonder if a quit smoking group or going to his MD could help. I'm sure he tried the patches and all. I don't think those were around when I quit mid 80's. I hope he can find a solution. It's not easy.

Hypnosis is not guaranteed to work, my mother and
father both got hypnotised to stop smoking on the
same day at the same place, my mother never smoked
again, but my father never stopped.

Mike.

After smoking for 50+ years he has tried everything available. Pills, patches, cold turkey you name it he tried it. I was hoping hypnosis might be the "magic" solution, but I guess not.

Chantix helped my husband quit a couple times, but when he stopped taking it, he went back to smoking again.

I started as a teenager & finally quit in my early 20’s. What did it for me is wanting to quit to have more stamina in my MX racing. I just plain wanted this more than smoking & it was in the way. It was very hard & I failed a couple of times but did succeed.

Everybody kind of wants to quit but, you really, really, have to want to quit. Having a good reason to do so helped me.

Yeah, I think $60.00 a carton is a really good reason to quit! Also not coughing and gagging every morning.

I tried hypnotherapy twice to quit smoking and it didn't work for me at all, I found out I'm just not a good subject for hypnotism. Your husband just might happen to be a good subject, so why not have him try? It sounds to me like he's pretty good at quitting, he just has to learn that there's no such thing as, "just one."
