I’m usually the oldest person in the room

The poll about how old we are brought to mind this curiosity which I’ve been meaning to post about for a while.

In many of the social situations in which I find myself, I am typically the oldest person in the room, unless Ron’s with me and then he is. There is one person who attends the dance studio where I go who’s older than me. Another guy who shows up to the weekly meetings I attend who is older. But when we’re invited to dinner, when we went to the various Christmas parties and gatherings that we were invited to for example, Ron and I were the oldest as I surveyed the room and did a quick informal survey.
I can understand it when we’re with family because duh!! We’re the parents! But we get together socially in with a variety of other folks or accept invitations to everything from weddings to baby showers to birthdays to retirement parties, and STILL I am the oldest apart from Ron.
That poll about age made me realize that I’m a spring chicken compared
to a lot of you so WHY am I typically the oldest in the room!!
What about you all? Does that ever happen to you?

I remember, fondly, when I was the youngest person in the room, especially in the sixties since I skipped a couple of grades and had mature interests, and so hung out with an older crowd.

No I'm usually about the same age, as most of my friends...some a little younger some a little older but generally my age or thereabouts...

I'm not always the oldest - yet. I'm not the youngest either. I really never gave much thought to this.

Sometimes I’m older sometimes younger, the older people I hang around with are all young at heart, that’s the most important thing

after decades of going out and joining groups, I don't go any more because I dont want to be the oldest one there
by at least 25 years. I have other reasons for not going. Classical concerts are mostly seniors--you can go there
in a dignified setting.

Well, your avatar certainly looks like you would hang around with a younger crowd. That sort of "look how cute I am at my age" type of picture. However, absolutely nothing wrong with the picture.

We haven't lived here long enough to make friends, other than the maintenance woman (45), who is young enough to be our daughter. She's not married anymore, but does have a son. She likes talking to me, because I talk to her. She is an outdoors girl and we are too (in the Spring/Summer). The office staff likes us also...…..thankfully!

Many of the Seniors here, that are our age, look quite a bit older than we do. Lots of gray hair and not nearly as active as we are. Their big event is going to McDonalds for coffee and conversation in the morning. To us, really sort of boring!

From what I remember of the photos you
Posted on the members pictures thread a while back, you and your wife don’t look anywhere near your ages!

One of the pluses of living in a 55+ community is that there is always someone around that is older than you. Our community newspaper this month had a picture of a lady that turned 100. I still have 15 years to go.

Being the oldest person in the room is not as important as how the people of various ages interact.

It's always fun to be around people of various ages that are interested in engaging with each other but it doesn't make much difference if the various people can't find some common ground.

As an octogenarian and still riding my bicycle, I'm usually the oldest one on the greenway where I ride by the river.

I like to go there because with the helmet, bike outfit, gloves, sunglasses, etc., no one even knows the ages of most of us. Heck, I've even gotten a couple of glances from some of the young ladies.

A few weeks ago, I helped a struggling old lady load her groceries into her car
Somehow it came up she was 58 years old

I immediately became the oldest person in the parking lot
