I am easily amused by electronics

I recently discovered that I can get more services from Comcast (XFinity) for the same amount I've already been paying. I can add Starz, Cinemax, etc. And I can get phone service from Comcast. I've already been using their DVR service for awhile. I already have a free phone line thanks to Google Voice. But I just can't resist getting more for the same amount.

I just received notice that my new cable modem will arrive on Tuesday. I'm so excited that I did a little happy chair dance when I read the news.

Am I easily amused, or what?!

That's nice. I have Xfinity triple play too and I was unaware that I can get all that for the same amount I'm paying. Hmmm. I'll have to look into this.

I can understand your joy, Ronknights! My options are limited here as I'm somewhat rural. But we've got Netflix, Amazon Prime and we get my sister's Hulu account in the US. Sneaky.

Thanks for responding, Laurie, Ameriscot, chic! Ameriscot, I'm curious. Are you and American living in Scotland?!

My name is Ron Knights. Everyone can call me Ron!

I'm working on an idea that will let me have a rather elaborate entertainment center. The center itself will be a 6 foot industrial grade wire shelving unit that currently handles my computer monitors and equipment. The 50" TV would take center stage. I'd get a 6 ft table to handle the three computer monitors. Maybe I'll upload some photos later.

Ron, I'm easily confused by electronics, technophobe to be honest. :p Looking forward to seeing your entertainment center, hope you share the photos with us. :)

SeaBreeze, I understand. I got my love of electronics from my Dad. He had shortwave radios, and loved working on electronics and cars.

Here's an older picture of my setup. It took me a few months to realize the TV was up too high. I finally realized that was the cause of my terrible neck pane. I sat at the computer, and looked up to watch the TV. I plan to get a desk for the computer monitors. Then I'll adjust the shelves so the TV can be on the shelf where the monitors are now.

Wow Ron, you sure have a lot of gizmos there! :D I have one desktop upstairs, and my old computer from 2000 in the basement, never use it but it's set to use free dial-up in an emergency. Three TVs total, but none in my computer room.

SeaBreeze, I have to try balancing my love of gadgets with the need to have room for my family to visit. My brother is very large, and is confined to a wide wheelchair. He takes up most of the open space in the living room when he visits. I have a couch for my parents to sit on, and an easy chair that I use when I sit back and relax.

The second shelf down has a 27" iMac (Macintosh) all-in-one computer connected to a 24" monitor. There is also a 24" monitor connected to a Mac Mini computer. There are also a bunch of external hard drives that contain all my projects, etc. I have made YouTube videos over the years, and also do 3D art!

I like fooling with , and fixing electronics...made a career of it for 40+ years. However, much of the stuff being made today defies most repairs. A flat screen TV/monitor, for example, is almost not even worth trying to repair. About the only thing I've been able to fix lately is one of my battery chargers...it quit working, and rather than spend $80 or more for a new one, I tore into it, and traced the problem to a shorted diode....$3 from a local Radio Shack.

They've been our only supplier (which is forever). If you call and 'discuss' with them why your bill has increased, etc they'll be more than happy to adjust it to keep you as a customer. You may get 6 months, a year, etc of a good deal and then the bill skyrockets. I actually mark my ecalendar so I know when it's going to go up. I think they count on folks just whining and not calling to contest the increases. HBO is free with their various pkgs.

I've been happy wit XFinity from the start. Their beginning Internet speed was faster than what was offered by Time Warner in Maine, for the same price, etc. I use the Internet so much that I upgraded to their "Boost" speed.

I love tech gadgets too, Ron, but it seems so much harder now at figuring out how they work. I may post some questions about getting my tablet and tv working together. Love your multiple monitors. I have two and it so hard to go to work and have only one.

jnos, I'll try to help. But remember I finally switched to Apple technology exclusively for now. My life is so much happier.
