I can not keep up with political correctness these days.

Watching the AFL game between Fremantle and St Kilda, their names have been changed to Walyalup for Fremantle and Euro-Yroke for St Kilda.

Fremantle - Walyalup is the name of the original inhabitants before colonisation from Fremantle, extending South of the Swan River, from the Indian Ocean to Canning River.
St Kilda - Euro-Yroke is the name of the original inhabitants before colonisation from the Werribee River to Wilsons Promontory taking in the suburb of St Kilda.

Here in the states, the original idea behind Political Correctness, was simply referring to people by what they want to be called. Like Asian instead of Oriental, Native American instead of Indian. Then others started adding a lot of other things to it. Stupid things like you shouldn't say Merry Christmas since not everyone celebrates it. When I was younger, I would say Merry Christmas to elderly couples who I didn't realize was Jewish. They would say thank you to me and then wish me a Happy Hannukah, to let me know that they were Jewish. But they were never angry.

Yep. Craziness has taken over and so may minorities have been emboldened by councilors and members of parliament only too willing to appease.

I will continue to do what I've done for a very long time. Just follow the Golden Rule and treat EVERYONE with RESPECT as you would like to be treated. And if they are a "problem", just walk away.

On addressing someone of whom you can't determine the "right" pronoun, just don't use one. I had this come up a number of times at a local eatery. A young waitperson appeared to be a guy, but had long red dyed hair, earrings, makeup, and a high voice. "He/she" was (is) a very nice person to us, and very competent in his/her job. Normally I would use the term "guy, miss, hon, ma'am, sir" or the like, but wasn't sure what was OK. So I just never used any.

I finally got a clue when he/she went to the men's restroom, but I still refrained from using one of those pronouns.

I absolutely agree, same thing is happening here... and on another note.. people are continually taking offence at the slightest comment and making it into something it's not.

This week a Japanese female in the UK sued her boss in court.. for saying she liked Sushi...

The Japanese woman said that the Boss, who it was proved in court had always been nice to the woman... was being deliberately Racist by saying Sushi was her favourite food.

The court found in the Boss' favour, and threw out the case... but more and more these types of cases are winning..

I don't have a problem with granting indigenous people respect by having their names back, and not using things like "Redskins" for team names.

What I'm sick of is the hypocrisy of not going all the way with it. Example: The two colonial powers in the 1600s and 1700s were the British Empire and the Spanish. California is covered with Spanish names on every place because while the Brits, Dutch and French invaded the East Coast (thus, New York), the Spaniards invaded California, Mexico and other parts of South America.

So, if the liberals really want to move with complete Mea Culpas to giving honor to the indigenous tribes, better give Los Angeles a native name. They were there first. Likewise with San Francisco, San Leandro, Santa Barbara, etc., etc.

However, I don't really want the state legislatures to focus on such time-wasting malarky. They already waste enough time. I would just really like our kids to be taught in school that all the Spanish names of things are the result of colonialism too. The Brits, Dutch and French were not any worse or better than the Spaniards. It was the common practice of the era and had less to do with racism and much more to do with nations trying to acquire land and treasure (just like all people still strive for today. Tis human nature in the system we have.)

But all this baloney of "we want to honor the Washoe People and acknowledge that this university was built on their land" stuff -
Oh PUL-EASE. Want to honor them? Rename the city using one the the Washoe words for it.

Plus, I don't understand what good it does to apologize to the decedents of the dead. Continuous apologies. If they want to actually help Native people, change your public policies. Don't keep throwing words at them.

Wow. What a horrible case. I'm guessing the Plaintiff doesn't work there anymore?

Here in Canada this nonesense has been going on for several years. Football teams have had to change their names, street names that were named for early bishops have now been changed and at every event a short speech is read saying how we are thankful to be on aboriginal land. The churches of the last century were all evil because they supported residental schools.

Governments on all levels have given billions of dollars because they are all guilty. Actually, the first nations have so much money now that they are hiring lawyers and suing all 3 levels of government. I find this rather amusing!

I don't have a problem with re-naming streets and buildings. They did that in one town because they found out the building was named after a former KKK member. Not good!

I took offense when I was working at my college, that we should say Happy Holidays not Merry Christmas. And then we were allowed a Christmas tree in the office, but no lights and no Christmas ornaments. What??? So instead of ornaments, we cut out round templates and left them under the tree. We had a sign that anyone could write a wish on the template and hang it on the tree. An example of a wish, is to be kind to everyone, etc.

Nice sentiments, sure, but I love Christmas trees with lights and ornaments. Funnily enough, I think a lot of the students would have preferred lights and ornaments. Even the Asian students, the previous years would say, oh, what a pretty tree. No one said what a pretty tree this time.

And then, our bosses told us to write wishes on the tree, because most students and anyone else at the college did not care about writing a sentiment on a round paper template. And then, once it was Chinese New Year, the bosses drummed it into our head to say Happy New Year in Chinese. So I had to say , Happy New Year in Chinese but I was not allowed to say Merry Christmas????

My Native American co-worker has used the term "Indian" to describe herself. Once the phones were having issues. She said "I can send smoke signals."

This acknowledging stuff is nuts. So they want to say it was once the land of the native people. That does nothing. No one is moving. Sadly this beautiful prime land was going to be found. I just wish so much we had taken better care of it and respected the people already here.

Washington state has a lot of Native based names for towns.

If someone asks me my pronouns. They won't like my answer.

I think I'll stick with the polite company manners that I was taught as a child. I'll wish people Merry Christmas and if I'm condemned for that, then okay. It just seems that we have too many situations where a very few people want to change the world due to an over sensitivity of a fact of life. Very selfish in the root form of the concept.

I feel like there are so many important things in our land that deserve attention rather than some adjective or adverb. Some of those persons so very vocal about political correctness are the same ones that won't help someone in need of assistance, or just open a door to be courteous.

When this all started, I began to say, "Happy Holidays", because it covers all the bases.

Mobilman: I usually say "Excuse me dear ...." they are only too happy to listen.

Narcissistic + gaslighting is just too prevalent in most all political stuff.
Most all news outlets and also with the constant Billionaire postings. Just
Ask yourself why? Why would a very rich man shoot his mouth off. Why
would all just tell constant lies? Why. "You know we are not stupid."
Sure, the faster they talk, the louder they talk, the more they run down others,
the easier it is easy to figure out total BS is just that. Those out there don't
give a dam about the truthful facts of everything! It's boring for them. They
intend to screw U ! count on it.
