I Couldn't Log In To my Brokerage. Solved But Was Disconcerting.

I had used the same password on Schwab for years. I wasn't worried about changing it because I have two factor ID login requiring me to use the Samantec VIP app which generates codes to complete the login. A couple of weeks ago, I couldn't login using the app or browser. I called but it was late at night and I got a message saying they couldn't take my call right now. That's never happened so I figured maybe their systems were down. That made me a little less concerned but I was praying no one had hacked my account.

I called the next day and spoke to a rep who had to put me on hold to check something. Uh Oh...was my account compromised? 😱 He took a few minutes and said either that happened because it's been a long time since I logged in (nope that wasn't it) or I've had the password a long time and needed to change it. But since that was likely the case, why didn't Schwab notify me about that?! I really like dealing with that brokerage, but I consider that a faux pas on their part. The agent gave me a temporary password so I could login and create a new one. I will say, they have excellent customer service.
