I ended up with a new computer.

Greetings all. As I mentioned before my computer kicked the bucket. After a week or so of trying to revive it I had to let it go. The service contract holder would not honor their obligation so I had to purchase a new one. I have been setting it up for the last few days. I did not want to transfer a massive amount of data from the old computer to the new so I have been and I am still busy removing junk and bloatware. I have stuff buried in folders from three computers ago. Just like moving from one home to another it is the little things that bog one down. Anyway, I had to take a break and see what was up here on SF. Good to see your faces/icons....;)

I used to spend hours researching computers when I needed to buy a new one. Now I just narrow it down to my "not negotiable" features that I want and check to see who has the lowest price. Much less stressful.

I know what you mean about removing old files. I decided to go through all the recipes and crafts I've saved. It took me days. I could have cleaned out 3 houses in the amount of time it took me to go through all of them.
How quickly they added up.
Enjoy your new computer.
A wonderful invention until it gets the upper hand and that can happen in one quick click.

What computer did you settle on?

My laptop has developed stress cracks in the hinges, and they have caused a short in the power button.

I always hate sifting through the endless choices to make a major purchase.
I cannot see well enough for a laptop. I purchased an ACER Aspire TC-391-UR ll PC. The SSD is only 512GB but everything else is close to what I wanted. It seems there is never a specific one that has all you need installed on it. I settled for the 512 SSD. It is fast but small. I have almost filled it up already. I will put a 1TB in it as soon as I can.

Speaking of that one click. I may have assassinated mine. I was partitioning the hard drive to install Linux and it froze up. I went to reboot it and it locked up on the boot screen. I was able to salvage the RAM and I may be able to salvage the HDD.

Thanks!

I'm still debating what to do.

It usually takes at least a year of procrastination and indecision or a crisis before I'm able to make a decision. ;)

There were actually many I found for less than two hundred dollars. They were new but had older hardware installed on them. If I could see better I may have bought one of those and upgraded it. Like I said it was next to impossible to find one that was set up exactly with what I need. Like you said endless choices. I was in computer overload for a while and finally made a decision.

We've used Macs for years. Using a Mac Pro Laptop right now. Its about 5 years old.
