I Had A Leak Over My Toilet

This was several weeks ago and I kept meaning to post about it. I experienced the leak on a Sunday morning about 1:30 a.m. When I looked up, a hole had started to form in the ceiling. I called my upstairs neighbor, who was also up (we keep the same middle of the night hours). She saw no evidence of a leak, but I understood why because a couple of years ago, my toilet was leaking into the furnace room from a broken piece in the middle of the underside of the commode. Good thing the leak stopped almost immediately.

Blessedly, our management company has an emergency number and the operator contacted our repairman right away. He called me a half hour later and set up an appointment to come the next day. He and his brother own the company and had done work in my apartment before They and their team do excellent work. The plumber brother told me that the leak had been going on for a while. He could see some bulging in the ceiling that we hadn't even noticed, in a much larger circumference than seen in the top picture. Look how perfectly the ceiling was repaired and painted.

After that work was done, I had the older brother come back and replace my vent fan that had stopped working. He suggested fans I didn't even know were available. I'm glad I chose the lighted one to replace the old style vent fan. That install necessitated having his worker come in the next day to finish repairing and painting part of the ceiling again.

I would be concerned that they did not identify the source of the leak before making the repairs.

Many years ago, I had a mystery leak in my bathroom, from the apartment above me.

The ceiling would be damp with a few water droplets and some water dripping through the ceiling fan.

It stopped and started, the building maintenance couldn’t find the issue.

Finally the young man upstairs sheepishly admitted that the leak seemed to coincide with the days and times that he was showering with a friend. Apparently, the additional weight in the shower caused the drain to dislodge temporarily.

Mystery leaks are definitely scary. I've had several leaky water incidents in my apartment, some that became so serious that they caused flooding. Wow the reason for the leak you had was wild! Good thing the mystery was solved.

They went into her apartment the same day they came to mine. They did identify the source of the leak, which is what I thought it was. So they repaired her toilet by replacing the part that caused the leak. I was happy for both our sakes that it was something identifiable and relatively easy to fix.

I'm glad you got the problem fixed lovely lady. (y)

I Had A Leak Over My Toilet

Every day, yes every day, I have a leak over my toilet, but I always remember to put the seat down in case a lady visitor wants to also have a leak. 😊
Tell you what, if I don't put the seat back down after the flush I get the mother & father of a verbal kicking!

Oh my! And thank you kind sir. :)

We don't have that problem in my house. Muslims are taught to always put the lid down on the toilet before flushing. Decades later, scientists and health experts starting publicly stating the same thing and said why. Toilet germs, including fecal bacteria can spray up and out as far as 6 feet. :poop::sick:
