can I get some recommendations for very soft, thirsty towels? Do not
want walmart, target etc....used to get Stephans from north carolina or
thereabouts, but they went out of business....thanks....

Some dept. stores sell nice towels. Here Belk sells nice towels and things from their Biltmore collection. Biltmore is the largest personal home in the US (?). On my avatar picture.
You may have a local dept. store with the same sort of collection. They were not cheap but not outrageous and have lasted well.

back in 2020 I wanted the same
My good (thirsty) towels were getting quite thin

I did a local store search
Bought some that 'looked good' and thick.......not thirsty, just moved the water to another part of my bod

Somebody told me 'Egyptian' cotton was what I needed

That may be, but stopped my search when we inherited these

Quite thirsty
Love 'em

Hope you can read the tags
Doesn't say it's Egyptian cotton, but they're really absorbant

GMA recently did a segment on the best bath towels. Now I just need to remember which day it was; when I get a chance, I'll look through the episodes. Also, I am very happy with the hand towels I bought from Amazon. They are sturdy, very well made and soft enough. I chose Ivory.

Diva thanks very much, they look like what I want...will check those out....

You're welcome, of course. šŸ¤— I probably wouldn't have gotten those towels had someone not gifted me a $100 Amazon card. I decided to treat myself since some of my hand towels are starting to wear out. I'm so glad I got those even though I wish they had come in packs of 4 or 6 instead of 8. Well, at least that's a purchase I'll probably never have to make again.

I bought some really nice thick towels from Costco recently... and they look nice on the towel rail and that's where it ends because they're no good for drying.. they're thick, soft, and non-absorbent.... *sigh*

I'm going to buy Egyptian towels next.. they might not be as pretty but they dry you...

I had a towel like that (had received it as a gift), it didn't get 'thirsty' until it was so old it was fraying.

Last year I bought a couple towels from Walmart, they feel soft and dry okay, but they are weirdly thin. Next time I will look for a quality towel.

Wanted to show you how soft and fluffy my new hand towels are (purchase link in post #8). You can see that 5 of them are thicker (thus stack taller) than 6 of my green towels. The darker green ones are also fairly new. After a couple of washings, I am still very happy with my purchase. Definitely good quality.

Did you get Egyptian?

My son and his wife gave me & Michelle a set of Egyptian bath towels (+washcloths & handtowels) for our first Christmas as a married couple.

They're awesome. They're really heavy when they're wet (noticed when I was doing laundry), but that just means they soak up every single drop of water, right?

yep I just bought one Bath sheet to try it out...it's absolutely huge I wasn't expecting it to be so big, so it's a little difficult for me to handle.. so I'm going to have to buy smaller ones ... It feels more like tea-towel material than regular bath towel, but it's very good at drying..

My preference is a thin towel over a thick one. Perhaps the thin ones have been 100% cotton. It’s been a long time since I could find ones that are that good. It’s hard to find Egyptian too. I only have one set of towels on the go and they last for years. No one besides us is in the ensuite so I have no interest in how they look, other than the colour I choose to co-ordinate with the room.
