I have started eating grapefruit to help with my blood sugar. Why do you eat it?

I read that grapefruit has a positive effect on lowering blood sugar. I take heart meds so I checked with my doctor and as long as I wait 6 hours after taking my heart med I can eat grapefruit.

I love this fruit and it doesn't raise my sugars. I eat one a day. Even though I take 1200 a day of magnesium I might need more since I crave this fruit. After taking 800 mg of magnesium for months, blood tests showed I was still on the low side. Sigh.

Is drinking grapefruit JUICE as good as whole grapefruit ? I love it. I keep a big jug of it in the fridge.

Also big bottles of APPLE juice. Just had a big glass of apple juice. YUM! Sure beats soda pop !

Falcon,

From what I read grapefruit juice has same benefits as whole grapefruit except for the lack of fiber. As for apple juice, too much sugar for me to have.

I eat 1/2 grapefruit about 2x per week. I just like the taste of them. I have found that organic pink grapefruits are the sweetest. I also need the vitamin C. I don't take any prescription meds that grapefruit would interfere with, so I don't have to worry about that.

Never liked grapefruit or the juice. Grape juice, blueberry juice and apple juice all diluted with water. Want a nice glass of water, add one ounce apple juice to 12 oz. water.

Where did you read that grapefruit helps lower blood sugar?

My diabetes educator I see never mentioned that to me and she would know.
