I've been assuming the duties of a household repairman. First, about 3 weeks ago, the freezer compartment, in the fridge, completely clogged up with ice. I ordered a defrost timer, heater element, and the bi-metal thermostat, online...got the parts for a little over $100, and a week later took everything apart, and installed the new parts....so far, so good.
Then, a few days ago, I noticed some water on the garage floor, and traced that to a small crack forming in the case of the water softener....15 yrs. old, and no way to really fix that, so a couple of days ago, I bought a new softener...$600, and installed it Wednesday. This morning, I ran a regen cycle, and found a couple of minor leaks in the hoses/fittings, and spent a couple of hours fixing that.
This afternoon, the wife mentioned a loud noise coming from the Dyson vacuum cleaner. I found a good video on UTube describing the problem, and fix. So, I've ordered a new clutch asm., brush, and the special tools needed to replace those....another $60 down the drain.
So far, I'm out about 8 hundred bucks, but that's about 1/2, or less, of what some "repairman" would charge to fix all this...and far less than buying a new fridge and vacuum. I'm just hoping that the old adage of "Everything bad happens in Three's" holds true, and I can get out of this fixit mode once all this is done.
Oh, well, it's too danged hot to be messing around outdoors, so this is keeping me hopping indoors, in comparative comfort. Next on our bucket list is to shut the place up for a couple of days, and go to the casino to put all this nonsense behind us. Wish me luck.
