When I was helping a friend build an addition to his house a few years ago I hit my finger with a hammer quite hard.
It was throbbing badly and felt hot.
The person I was working with was married to a Chinese lady.
He said, "Come into the house and I will ask my wife to take away the pain"
Doing as he asked, we went and saw his wife. She took hold of my hand and held her hand over my throbbing finger.
After about a minute the throbbing stopped, the heat went away and there was no more pain.
True Story.

Seriously, I wonder if she can help with your ankle.
 
She may have been a Reiki practitioner, which involves a form of energy manipulation. It’s not scientifically backed, but is used as a form of ancillary therapy in some settings for pain relief and healing.
 
Someone mentioned to me that maybe she was a chi manipulator with the power to manipulate the vital energy coursing through all living beings.
What ever she had, it worked perfectly
