I love watching cooking shows and I love reading cooking magazines, but I don't cook. Anyone else?

I don't cook for variety of reasons, but looking at the magazines makes me want too. I would especially like to bake. I used to do both, cook and bake. We mostly eat take out, microwave, and frozen meals. Husband cooks sometimes like steaks etc.

Sorry to hear you can no longer cook. Have you consulted a physician? Certain physical limitations can be treated, to enable you to stand at a stove, prep food, etc. As one who considers cooking to be one of my life's greatest joys, I can't imagine not being able to do so.

For a variety of reasons we cook & bake. The most basic reason is for our health. We control what goes into what we eat. Aside from that we enjoy our time together in the kitchen. Tell Alexa on our Echo dot3 to play music, access Pinterest on my wife's laptop for recipes & were set to try another way to cook or bake. Fresh ingredients, control the salt & no preservatives translates to no blood pressure or cholesterol meds & correct BMI for us. We live where we could eat out every day probably for less than it costs to prep our food but controlling the content of what we eat makes being active healthy way better than the other option.

Sadly both my doc and physical therapy don't want me anywhere near a stove :(.

I like cooking shows like Beat Bobby Flay or Chopped, the competition kind. I've always been able to cook, but my husband is a much better cook than I am, so I'm lucky to have him all these years. :love_heart:

Great post. This sounds ideal and is how we deal with our food and cooking.
Don't have time for cooking shows, But I love to cook.
Ditto.

Years ago I loved to watch REAL cooks like Julia Child, Sara Moultin, Martha Stewart, and America's Test Kitchen. I'm not a fan of any competition show or any of the "EVOO" crowd that are more about entertainment than cooking. (Guy Fieri... seriously?)

I learned a lot of technique and have amassed an array of kitchen gadgets and a collection of cookbooks. So I'm definitely in the "love to cook" crowd and can't imagine not cooking; it's something I really enjoy.

The only chef I still look forward to watching and learning from is Jacques Pepin.

I used to enjoy cooking when I had people around that appreciated my efforts.

These days cooking for one person on a restricted diet is really more trouble than it's worth.

I cook for myself for the same reasons. I want to control what I put in my body. I also do still enjoy cooking though I enjoyed it much more back when I was cooking for family.

The problem with the cooking shows is the number of ingredients they use for one meal. If you are doing their recipes what do you do with all the ingredients that are left over?

My wife and I enjoyed watching several seasons of The Great British Baking Show on Netflix. No technical interest, just pure lowbrow entertainment. It appears to be almost fully scripted so it's fun to speculate as to what's really going on.

I love to cook and bake and I have a large collection of cookbooks. A few go back to the late 1800's. I've read them all from cover to cover. I also have a collection of small booklets put out by churches and organizations. They seem to have really good recipes.

Right now I have no intention of selling them but have noticed the younger generation really isn't interested in cookbooks. When my daughter cooks she runs to the computer and prints out what she wants.

I think my mom had a great idea. She saw me copying out recipes from my cookbooks and putting them on cards for my recipe box. She said it is better to have a list of the cookbooks and the page of the recipe that way you actually use the cookbook. I've done that ever since and also put a clip on the page. Although I realize some people may not be able to get to the cookbooks easily for lack of space but it works for me.

Sara Moultin was one of my favorites..She taught me how to cook rice....

I like to watch when I can..

I just can't get over how much salt they put on everything.

I used to enjoy Chopped. Just haven't watched in a while.

I like the gadgets way too much , I don't buy a lot but I love to look at them in the store.

Kinda like a kid in the candy store.

The cooking shows gave me ideas that I finally acted upon. I do 90% of the cooking, and wife just gets to eat. I learned a number of techniques, and general ideas, from the cooking shows.
I now 'cheat'. I do a lot of chopping because most of what we eat are stir-fried dishes. I used to purchase individual spices, toast them, blend them in a mixer, for various curries. I quit doing that. So I buy the spice mixes for the seasoning, and do the rest of the work. Big fan of Patak's products.
To me, this is the relatively easy way to eat healthy, using fresh ingredients, and really like the dishes while 'cheating' with the flavoring. Seems like a reasonable compromise.

I love to look at the new gadgets and contraptions in the store, too.
