I saw an XL Bully today

In this instance today with the pony the owners say ( and I have to tell you our local Police are terrible, they don't want to do any kind of investigation for anything )... that the reason the Police are not investigating is because they presume the owners of the horse are Travellers ( Gypsies)...
I feel for you having a police department with that type of attitude. Coming from an LE background, it is unacceptable for this to happen, to anyone & any crime, when it's clear cut that an offense had occurred.

We have Travellers in our area too, except they drive vehicles now. Some put down roots & have jobs. I went to school with a few of the kids. We still have a few that move into the area during summer, do shoddy work if they even do that much & then leave taking peoples money. I'm not sure if you have any problems with them like we do sometimes.

BUT, that is no reason for not investigating a crime that was against them because they're Travelers. I don't care whether you agree with someone or not, if they are the victim, it's your job to investigate the crime fully.

@hollydolly it's very sad to me that you aren't allowed to protect yourself & your family (both 2 & 4 legged). If you do, you're the one who is in the wrong & prosecuted when a criminal started the trouble.

The police can't be everywhere all the time, so you should be able to do what you need to do. I wish that would change for you.

So you hope the UK becomes a country of gun nuts like us? Really? Or am I misunderstanding?

yes it is very sad... and particularly so now when the Police are so woke and really of little use on a domestic level.. they don't come out for burglaries, stolen cars.. or anything like that.. and when and if they do come for anything, they're pretty useless.. so yes the public should be permitted at the very least to be able to defend themselves and or their property.

In Spain where again the public are not permitted to be armed, altho' the police routinely are... when I walked in on a burglar in my bedroom, and was so enraged I attacked him, and pushed him off the first floor balcony.. and my neighbours called the police .. the Spanish police told me if it ever happens again.. do what is necessary.. as long as he's not found on your property there will be no comeback on you..

yes you can get one.. but you have to at first apply for a licence from the police who will check your background to see if you have a record of any kind of crime and in which case if you have you will not be permitted to have a licence or own a gun..
I couldn't! The very thought is absurd to me. The vast majority of us ordinary folks in the UK, surely don't wish to go down that path. We, I, put all faith in police law and order which will always be safest without guns for citizens. You and I know that? Of course for specific reasons, within existing law, guns are allowed to responsible people.

I'm not arguing the toss with anyone about gun laws, we are not a gun-owning country like America. They have a different outlook there and that's not our concern here.

I just pray this foolish ownership of very dangerous dogs is strongly controlled. It is just so frightening and unfair for the rest of us. Guns certainly wouldn't be an answer anyhow, it would become lawless in no time with people shooting dogs everywhere!

I'm not a fan of big dogs either - but to be fair the walker of the dog in OP had the dog on a lead and muzzle, as required by your law, and the dog was behaving calmly as reported by Rose.
So he wasn't doing anything wrong

Not quite sure how this relates to gun ownership or robberies in Texas though?

So, an owner, a woman, of two XL Bullies was killed by them yesterday, in London news UK.
It takes some doing surely for dogs to turn on their owner like this.

No it doesn't it's bred into some dogs. We don't know where she got these dogs from or how long she had them. We do know that they she had an exemption certificate which allowed her to own the dogs, since the law was changed to make it illegal to own XL bullys'..without one...and in public they must be muzzled and kept on lead..

We don't know yet if she had them since pups, whether they were rescues, or whether they'd come to her from a pound.. or what !

16 people have been killed since last year by XL Bully Dogs...far too many...
