I Spent A Fun, Enlightening, Delicious Friday Afternoon With My Son

My son got off early so we could go to the masjid (mosque) I favor for Jumah service. It is about 15 miles from home and since I don’t drive anymore, I haven’t been there since my husband died over four years ago. We both enjoyed and were enlightened by the kutbah (sermon).
Afterward my son took me to a store not too far away from the masjid to see if they had my favorite lotion..Nubian Heritage Mango Butter, because it’s out of stock everywhere else. He knew they carried NH so thought I’d luck up there, but that was not the case.

All was not lost, however. He then drove to the “fish truck”. He said the proprietors have sold fish from that truck for years and are always busy. Such was the case when we pulled up. But it was so worth the wait. I was very hungry so I started on my fish sandwich as soon as I got it. After getting home I was surprised to find that 4 more pieces of fish were in the box! That was the best fish sandwich I’ve ever eaten; even their tartar sauce is good (some restaurants fall short). My son also surprised me with a squash pie from the masjid. They are SO good. Two nights before he bought me a mid sized sweet potato pie. He is really making sure my palate is happy! 😛

He stays so busy and it was nice to have time for conversation. During our time together there is always witty banter. He reiterated why he’s afraid to step out of line with me and said …yeah Ma, if I’m mad at you, I turn it into a joke, something we can laugh about. He thinks I’m kinda crazy….but he sure isn’t (well his sense of humor is). I told him I do the same thing with him. :ROFLMAO:

You are very blessed to have a caring son like that, OneEyedDiva! I have daughters who are equally loving and am deeply grateful! BTW, since you always respond so quickly to posts about shows we like, but were strangely absent on Friday, I came to the conclusion that you must be Muslim! Brilliant or what? :)

Did I not tell you in other post that "great minds think alike"! So yes, brilliant conclusion. But I'm usually not occupied on Fridays although I should make more of an effort to get to Jumah services somewhere. :sneaky: And yes we are so blessed. You too @Pepper. My son readily admits he's a Mama's boy; even when he was on the air. In fact he says if we start a production company together he's going to call it Mama's Boy Productions. :ROFLMAO:

MDS,

That is such a delightful story. It made me happy to read it.

My mom always used to say that "mama's boys" make the best husbands because they know how to treat a woman. So look for a man who gets along good with his mama.

this makes me smile... you are one fortunate Mama!
Thank you...I truly am blessed.
True and I think he is also fortunate to have a mama like OED. :)
Thank you so much dear friend. He thinks so too! I love that he gives me my "props' often and publicly.
Sounds like a wonderful day!! My oldest son is married and we have actually gotten closer during the past 14 years. I am very close to 2 of my 3 boys and cherish the time with them.
My son and I were always close but after my precious DIL passed away 15 months ago, I invited him to move back in with me and we've become even closer. We work well together.

"Mama's Boy Productions" Young fellow with a good sense of humor. :D

My Mutti always told me: make sure you treat women with respect! After a couple of disastrous experiences when I first came to Canada, I wrote back: "respect doesn't work with young women, both cheated on me with "bad boys," I am changing tactics!" And it worked, I pretended to be indifferent to a young woman I liked at first sight, and we ended up getting married!

Do you know what kind of fish it was? I eat fish 2-3 times per week. When I was stationed San Diego and Hawaii, I ate fish almost everyday. It’s better for us than red meat. In Hawaii, we ate a lot of Mahi Mahi or Dolphinfish. It’s really good on the grill.

Glad you had a good time. It must be nice sharing time with your son. He sounds like a nice young man that looks out for his mom. Was he in the military?

My son was never in the military. He definitely looks out for me. The fish was whiting. There are fish that we don't eat either because of the way they are farmed or their natural habits. I was loving fried mahi mahi from a local buffet, then I read that it was on the list of fish never to eat along with about 16 other species. Another is tilapia, which I never much cared for anyway and orange roughy which I used to love and get from Costco. Costco eventually stopped selling it. My son only eats salmon, whiting and maybe cod.
