I saw the ad for Discovery+ on one of my games so I decided to check it out. They are offering a one week free trial. so I signed up. It's a keeper. When I browsed the content, I realized D+ has all my beloved HGTV beachfront home buying shows, some I never heard of before and actually has other content I'm interested in. I can view programs without ads for $6.99 (no tax) a month! Previously I was watching my HGTV shows with ads using Philo, which I subscribed to specifically for that purpose. The "grandfathered" price I paid was $16 a month. Philo, which is now $20; besides VOD it carries live T.V. programs for 61 channels but I never used the live feature. So I'm saving $9.00 a month and don't have to deal with ads!

Yes I also subscribe to Discovery + ...but never had to pay anything because we get a years' free trial with the package we already have
I'm a bit puzzled by this. We pay licence money for Freeview, and we get other channels if we subscribe to an additional provider. I get several extra channels, including Discovery, as part of my package with bt.
America seems to have a totally different system. I get the impression that they pay far more than we do.

WE pay for a sky Q/broadband/landline package we have 900 channels including radio channels .. ... so after applying , we got Discovery + free for a years' trial, after that it will be a minimum extra payment on our monthly payment of £60 per month...(£15 pw)

I can record 6 programmes ( shows).. simultaneously while watching a 7th...

Yes I get the same impression with regard to the USA and charges for phone lines, and tv packages etc...

Thanks for your thoughts. I have been tempted to try it out. How do you like Philo ?

You're welcome Mark. I moved from Sling, which is more suited to sports fans, to Philo. In comparison, I liked Philo way better because finding what I wanted to watch was easier. The way Sling listed their slim pickings for HGTV was ridiculous and they had only a few episodes of each show. Philo did some site improvements since I first subscribed which make maneuvering the site easier. I liked Philo enough to keep it had I not discovered Discovery+'s ad free deal. Why not take advantage of their free trial? What have you got to lose? It will give you time to see if you want to keep it. https://www.philo.com/login/subscribe?redirect_uri=https://www.philo.com/player/guide

Last month ended my free subscription to Disney+ courtesy of my switch to Verizon Fios. I'm still getting free Amazon Prime after almost two years for upgrading my Metro PCS cell phone plan. As a young female financial advisor I saw on Oprah said: "Free is good".

I have done a few free trials when a channel had one specific show I wanted to see and binged watched it during the trial and then cancelled. You get nickeled to death by Comcast. I am waiting for starz to have their free week, hope I don’t miss it. Couple shows I want to see. 😂
