I've been organizing my kitchen cupboards today and I think I've solved one of life's greatest mysteries: Where do the socks go that are missing in the washer or dryer? (Besides the "hozone", of course, but that's only for socks you really like.)
I firmly believe now that they are reincarnated and come back as extra plastic storage container tops.
There's no other explanation, is there? I now have 6-count 'em-6 perfectly good lids that fit absolutely no containers in the cabinet. I do have 2 containers that fit none of those lids, but I think they are reincarnations of the drugstore reading glasses that disappear frequently.
Science tells us that no matter is actually "lost" per se. It just morphs into another form.....thus what I find in my kitchen cabinets.
Well, that's my theory and I'm sticking to it. YMMV.
