I Will Soon Become An Ambulatory Wheelchair User.

-Im waiting for my insurance to accepted my Dr. perscription for an electric mobility chair.
A mobility chair will give me my life back. Currently, I am a recluse in my home. I have fallen 6 times since last year. 4 times outside, 2 times in the house. The last fall was the most damaging of all.
-I have been binge watching videos on the ups and downs of being an ambulatory wheelchair users.
- I was shocked to see how many young people are ambulatory wheelchair users. The thing they suffer the most, are people ridiculing them for being able to walk.
- I foolishly thought this would not happen to me because society expects older people to be in a chair, even if we can walk.
- I use the chairs in supermarkets. These huge buildings make my legs give out within 5 minutes. -
A snotty cashier looked me in my face yesterday, and asked me why am I in the chair, she asked me what was wrong with me that I needed to use the chair. I calmly and quietly reversed the chair and went to another cashier 2 isles down.
- Im glad I discovered how I will deal with such sickening people. Simply walk or roll away😇. I owe them nothing. (It is very hurtful, none the less.) Invisible disability, an appropriate description.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mobility and falls, @Kya... being a recluse can certainly
make the whole thing scarier. I'm sorrier still to hear about people being abusive about
issues surrounding mobility issues... that's shocking to me!

I hope that you get you mobility chair and things become a little less frustrating for you...

When you do get it, please watch out for @hawkdon!! I've recently heard that he's a maniac out there
in his new chair! 😱😱
But he might be able to offer a few insights... especially on unpacking it when it first arrives!

The Bluestreak!!

I can empathize with the OP re: the many falls in just one year. Mine happened because when I stand, my blood pressure hits the floor, and I am beyond light-headed. However, while I have a wheelchair, it is rarely used. I am on a new med and stick with my walker.

Good luck with the new

Hoping you get that electric wheelchair. Don't let anybody insult you just ignore them like you said. Hey maybe you could get some streamers for it you know on the handlebars or somewhere and maybe some flame decals. Have fun with it.

I wish you the best 🌹
Thank you. You might be on to something 🤔

I am so sorry that they were rude to you. My thoughts are why is it even anybody's businesses whether you need one or not. I would have asked her why do you need to know. :D

Before I had knee surgery back in my 50's I got the same when I would use a store cart. Had to tell a few people.
If I dont use this thing its going to greatly curtail my shopping. The store wants us to use these things. They want us to spend money. Thats why theyre there to encourage us to stay and spend money. Otherwise I might make it down one aisle before my knee gives out and then Im leaving.

I dont need one now. I only notice them if someone tries to run me over. :D
Some people need to use them because they cant walk that far and the stores are huge.

I think that you were wrong to go to another cashier!

You should have asked her, "what is wrong with your mouth,
it is being insulting to a customer of the store, when it should
be civil at all times to customers", then you could go to another
cashier.
I am assuming that the cashier was a woman, if not I apologise.

Mike.

Good luck with the new electric chair.
Thank you. In my house I use the cane and my walker. Im praying that I will get strength back in my legs and eventually I won't need the chair. I have a gym down the street. I dont drive. Im blind partially in one eye. If I can get to the gym with the chair,

Good luck on your new electric wheelchair.
Try and ignore the rude people if you can.
Like @RadishRose says “get some streamers and flame decals.!” lol 😂
I loved her suggestion.
I'd rather avoid conflict. That supermarket was in a neighborhood I hardly ever visit. People are majorly unhinged these days. People are making permanent decisions over temporary happenings.
I have nothing to prove to anyone. Once you show me who you are and your mindset, I will believe you and get the heck away from you. As the young people say: dont get me twisted. I carry a powerful self defense device at all times, but avoiding trouble is my aim.
Someone has to have a level head.
People are dying in McDonald's because their French fries were cold. Doesn't seem worth it when walking away would have sufficed.

It's the legs that are a biggo problem for me as well. My knees especially, are shot, but I use a lot of P.T. The gym will help for sure. Good luck. xx
