Icing My Knee Today

Was taking our usual walk in the dog park with our pup, and this dog charged towards us full speed, but instead of chasing my dog around he hit me directly in the side of my left knee. It hurt a lot, had to stop and regroup and see if I could move it around. It didn't feel like anything was broken, but it's definitely bruised inside and sprained. The side, back tendons and a little ways down the shin hurts when I walk. I limped and held onto my husband's arm for the rest of the walk.

Came home and it was just a little bit swollen, not too bad but still some pain when I walk. Not horrible pain or I'd suspect a torn ACL and be at the doctors now. But, I'm using a cane in the house and have it wrapped with ice pack and ace bandage, elevated now on a step stool. I also too 2 Aleve for the inflammation and pain.

Been going to that park for decades, and dogs run around all over. I've been lucky in the past, was bumped into at times but never was really injured. One lady we knew was knocked down by her own dog, and broke her hip. She came there for awhile with her husband and a walker, but she stopped coming, she was older and also had some other issues.

Another lady was sitting alone on a bench one winter with her leg up and her dog with her, nobody else around that day. I asked if she needed me to help her, but her husband was on the way in a car. All in all, I can't complain, it could have been much worse than it was, and the lady with the dog was very apologetic.

So sorry you got hurt SB. I like those knee wraps with the velcro, they're about 12 or 13 dollars. They really help support the knee. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks ladies, I do have some Therma Care back wraps that I can use if I want heat, but right now I think it's better to ice it. :inv:

Oh. Be well Seabreeze. That sounds painful. Bounding dogs is why I like cats. LoL. You're doing all the right things. I'm sure you'll be back to your old self shortly. Hugs.

SB, this supports the knee, besides ice, this will make it feela lot better. My grandson borrowed mine when he strained his knee after mine had healed and was greatly relieved.

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. It's not getting worse, so I think it'll be okay. :)

Thanks Ruth, it's more swollen now than it was when I came home from the park, but I've been walking around with the cane and doing things. Hoping it looks better by morning, the pain isn't bad though, I think those Aleve are working.

It's much better than it was Ike, thanks for asking. It's till slightly swollen, so I'm still taking it easy on it, but not using the cane in the house anymore, just a limp to not put too much weight on it. I take the stairs to the basement one step at a time, going up it still hurts a little as can be expected. It's not the bone, but the muscles, ligaments, etc. surrounding the knee. Been home all week, no walks in the park with the dog, but I plan to go out again on Monday for a walk, it should be good enough by then. Haven't had to use any more Aleve or anything, just happy it wasn't worse.

Thanks guys! Not a real trooper Lara, it was a mild injury, a bit sore still but that's about it. Haven't used any ice after the first day, and didn't need to use any heat, just wrapped it for a couple of days. If I go on a walk Monday, I'll wrap it for support for sure.
