If I can smell someone's breath could the virus attach to those odors?

Walked well behind someone the other day and smelled extreme hangover breath. I was walking about 10ft and 3-5 seconds behind and it was like they were inches in front of me. Same for thing for something like someone's cologne or soap. Could the cigarette smoke of an infected person carry the virus.

Can the substance of odor/smell also sustain/hold the virus.

Yes, I believe it can. i.e. if you can smell certain "odors" in a bathroom, it is because there are actual particles still around. Something is left behind to linger.
