If you got a free new mattress.........

A friend's son wanted to get his mother a new mattress. She said no, she was happy with the one she had. I can't remember when I bought my mattress, it was years and years ago. Unless there was something wrong with my mattress, I wouldn't get a free new mattress either. Mine puts me right to sleep. If you got a free new mattress, would you get it or keep the one you have?

I'm considering a new one simply because my queen size is to large for my current bedroom so I would like to "downsize" to a full.
Other than that I usually have mattresses for many years, don't really think about them much and boy have they gotten pricey.

I'd keep mine - it's only 6 months old and I love it . The one thing I DON'T love about it is ,trying to find sheets that fit it. Most mattresses now have that "pillow top" and that makes the mattress so high I almost need a running start to hop into it. This mattress is like the old kind - about 10" deep. I can't find any that fit it. I ended up ordering sheets from India .... yes ....India ..... They fit nice but after a few nights , the corners pop off just like all the others. I'm starting to sew elastic in the corners ,so they stay down. OOOooops ! I see I went off topic - sorry ! When I get started complaining about my sheets ,I can't stop ! LOL

I'd keep mine. It may be old but it is still comfortable. If mattresses are like most everything else you purchase now, what you buy today will not be as durable as what we bought years ago.

Have you looked into those things that keep the sheets on the corners? I don't know what you call them, but it's a band of elastic that goes under the mattress corner diagonally, and on each end are what looks like old fashion garters (like used to be on girdles and garter belts). You fasten the ends to the corners of the sheets and they keep the sheets in place. They work. I'll try to find a link . . .

I know what you're talking about Butterfly. I remember the garter belt reference ! LOL I bought 2" elastic & I'm sewing it at the corners of the sheets to slip under the mattress. It's kinda the same thing , but it's easier to find.

We really need a new mattress. I put it off because they are so expensive and so many choices. I feel very uncomfortable stretching out on one in the store. They say you can try them but just a few minutes laying on one is useless. I would need at least one maybe two nights on it to really know how comfortable it is. I use the bed bands, as the package calls them, quite often. They help worn out sheets stay snug. I got one pair on Amazon and another in Walmart. I did notice Walmart has another type where the cliclips.jpgp is all plastic. They didn't work for me.

Our condo was furnished when we bought it. The previous resident passed on at age 102. I decided it was time for a new mattress.

For me, the clips come loose; the garter belt type ones work better for me.

We have 2 twin beds pushed together because husb likes a softer mattress than I do. Sometimes I put a king size sheet on and sometimes 2 twins. It all works out great. I need a new one because mine is starting to get soft. I'd like to buy one of those numbered beds so each side can have it their way. I've heard they cost a lot and since husb is happy with his mattress why worry about it?
