Ignorant or Dumb things a Doctor said to you

I am sick and tired of some Doctors I have seen. A few years ago I was seeing an Ear,nose and Throat Doctor. On one of my visits he told me he wanted to schedule me for an MRI. I asked him if we could wait a week or 2 before doing the test because my Daughter was getting married in a few days. He said if you have what I think you have don't worry about the wedding because you won't be around to attend it. He didn't want to tell me what he was looking for,so I went for the test and fortunately there wasn't anything to be concerned about. That was the last time I saw him and it was 10yrs ago . He never said why the test was needed.
I also went to a Skin Doctor years ago, and so did my Husband and daughter. One time when my Husband had an appointment with him, and had to wait a long time until the Doctor went in the exam room. When he walked in my husband jokingly said "Boy Doctor you really know how to test your patients patience." After his visit the Doctor called me and said he would never see my husband again because my husband had hurt his feelings. He said that I was a lovely person ,so he would still see me. Of course I told him to forget about me seeing him again.
Have you ever heard a Doctor say something rude or ignorant to you?

My hubby has damaged kidneys from a medication he was taking for way to long. The doctor blamed my hubby because he kept calling for refills. Seems to me the reason they limit refills is so the doctor can keep tabs on how long you are taking a drug. He never called and said he can't take the drug anymore because he might damage his kidneys. He just kept refilling. The doctor didn't see it that way.

Years ago my 84 year old grandpa had developed a lung problem. The doctor suggested he pack up and move to Arizona where the air would be better for his lungs. Can you imagine an 84 year old man moving away from all he has known because of the climate?

Unbelievable telling an 84yr old man to move. Where are the good Doctors !

I had a doctor tell me, the minute he entered the exam room, that I had acid reflux, and needed to take these pills a very hot detail gal (I saw her leave) had dropped off right before my appointment. I told him my symptomology had nothing to do with acid reflux. He then told me he'd scope me, to substantiate my self diagnosis (which was correct), and tried to charge me $450 for a five minute visit. I told him no way, and the bill came down to $150. I never went back to this imbecile.

After my yearly exam, my doc told me she’d be putting me on some meds to control my cholesterol.
I asked why, since my count was good.
‘Due to your age’…..
I quit listening after that, and asked her if she could hear what she’d just said

I attempted to have a conversation with my PCP about drug/treatment options for my diabetes and his response was: "You can have whatever you want as long as it's Lantus."

I thought that was a pretty ignorant response.

When dealing with doctors or any professional it pays to keep in mind that 50% of them graduated in the bottom half of their class.:):playful::eek:nthego:

20 years old green as grass , .... No menstruation for 3 months... at the surgery to see the senior Doctor...

''Doctor I think I may be pregnant''..quick examination.. Doctor *sighing* ''No you're not, go home and take these pills it will regulate your period''... one month later, '' Doctor the pills didn't work.. ''ok, take these other ones''' ...another 4 weeks later.. in the surgery...

Doctor I came to you several weeks ago and you told me I wasn't' pregnant ... I really think I am...

Doctor *sighing loudly *.. Take your coat off and get on the examination couch...

Coat off, on the couch.. he opens the curtain, and his eyes nearly pop out... I have the belly the size of a habitual drinker .

Turns out I was 5 months pregnant.. scared the crap out of me, too late to do anything about it if I'd wanted to.. still living at home, my 19 year old boyfriend had just joined the Navy..no money
Terrifying times....

However that baby is my beloved daughter, so thank God for that Doctors ineptitude or she wouldn't be here , and although my boyfriend (her father) and I married , it was very difficult for us for a long time..

A doctor complained to me about gaining 20 pounds back and I told him "Doc, I lost those 20 pounds because I was sick with the flu and a spot of pneumonia in my lung. I was eating very little at the time."

Dah!!!

doctors are getting dumber and dumber--they are after money-i have an ent dr i go to because of an ichy ear he checked it said it looks fine--you only have a few minutes to talk to your dr so after he said my ear was fine he talked to my daughter the rest of the time

A few years ago I was told by a ‘specialist’ my expanding stomach was middle age spread, six months later after a second opinion, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, luckily still at stage one but those six months could’ve made the difference between life and death for me.....

I was feeling tried after returning from a training trip, in 1980 , my doctor said why don't you just check into the hospital let me check you out, I was in there for a week, he sent a sealed envelope, over to the personnel office, the personnel office asked me to come to the office, they told me the doctor said I had six months to live, they had to have their doctors look me over, I was called back in, they said I had thirty minutes to plan my retirement, it was a personnel policy that they retire me, I moved on to other things, my doctor died shortly after.

I had a doc suggest the same thing to me (cholesterol meds) and I explained to him my position on unnecessary meds for a nonexistent condition! Why would anyone want to do that? Those meds DO have side effects . . . .

Doctors have been condescending to me. The last 1 told me to quit my job. I just needed some antibiotics, as I had started working with waste. I was fine after that.

I have a few bad doctor memories. I think a lot of them are just in it for the money and power.

years back a dentist wanted to pull all my teeth and made that declaration after i was in the chair with his novicaine needle in his hand...i jerked the bib off and left..he called me at home ..asked me if i tell the pilot how to fly a plane....
needless to say...i told him...my mouth wasn't a ##!! plane...

For a short time I had a doctor who was a hypochondriac. He was young; probably in his 30's. But his favorite topics were his own medical tests, blood results, etc.

For the last 30 yrs or so I've been working with nutritional supplements. Reading and digesting as much as I could for my own health. I had read years ago that magnesium is even more important than taking hard rock calcium. Long story here. I ended up with calcifications in breasts from the two mamms I had in my 50's and started to try to find out WHY....too much calcium. Doctors push calcium...probably don't even bring up magnesium.

When I was seeing a rheumy MD back after hip replacement mess, she kept telling me to take more calcium and I kept say no, it's magnesium we really need. I would not back down and also got into an argument with her. Otherwise I liked her alternative protocols like acupuncture and prolotherapy and was big on the drug world....

I avoid western med MD's and thank goodness we have a good number of integrative MD's in my area. Then, of course, love love love Dr. Google as I love to find my own cures if possible.
