I'm 64, I'm retired, I'm widowed, and I find myself becoming somewhat of a recluse

We need the reclusive types to balance out people like me. Ha! My father would always say, if I could only keep my big mouth shut, I would go far in life. I didn’t take that advice, but did alright anyway. In truth though, I am a good listener.

Hi Lance. Welcome to SF
I find that a lot of life is about choices. If you don't like your life, then change it.
I think many isolate themselves because it just requires less effort.
However, you often get out of life what you put into it, and if you want to have a memorable one, then you have to do memorable things.
Being alone has it's perks, but it never hurts to live a balanced life. JMO
Never stated I dident like my life , just differnt no that my wife is gone ...readjusting myself you might say. If I told you my backround ,your eyes would be wide and you could understand why I have done so many memorable things ...I dont need any more. I came to this site due to a suggestion. I want to Thank You for your input.

Welcome from Atlanta, Lance. I became a widow at 64 as well. I made a point of joining a few groups that got me out of the house at least occasionally. I also did some volunteer work. This worked well for 20 years. Now I am 88 and the last few have been more difficult. But where would I be if I hadn't kept busy?

It’s definitely an adjustment to being by yourself after being a couple for many years. I have lived alone for the last four years, but luckily that’s the only thing that changed about my life. I still have my friends, family, and consulting work to keep myself busy. It is weird though not having someone to talk to whenever you feel like it or see something or read something that you would like to discuss immediately with someone.

However, I have found that there are also perks to being alone, such as I don’t have to take anyone else’s opinion into consideration to spend money or do anything else. Like most things there are pluses and minuses. Welcome to the forum!!
