I'm melting!!!

93 degrees here and the air conditioning system has gone belly-up. Just stopped, won't come back on.

The repairman will be here "sometime" between 7 p.m. and midnight. That's OK, we won't be sleeping anyway.....

Damned thing's only four years old and we just had the "summer service" a couple of weeks ago.

Arrrrggghhhh!

Oh that's horrible! I hope it's a simple quick fix. It's really good they work that late in Florida. I'll bet they need to, so they have AM and PM shifts.

that's how I am all summer... no AC here at all ... currently despite it being a cooler day today ( 78 degrees).. it's now exactly that inside my house...at 10.15pm.... makes it very difficult to sleep.

Ours stopped cooling the other day, and we had to call the repair man. He said that the drain line was clogged and the thermostat was offset. Two easy fixes. Hope yours is easy and quick to fix too. It’s unbearable in the heat, we just sat in front of fans.
We just had our summer service last week also.

Just a note: Make sure your filter is clean. Once ours stopped working in hot weather and we called someone out. It turned out the filter needed changing and was blocking too much air flow. This caused the coils in the conditioner to freeze up and block the coolant. A new filter and letting it sit a couple hours until the coils defrosted fixed the problem.

Yes, it is important to change the filter. My unit calls for a 20x25x4. They can be quite expensive. I just found a some on Amazon at a good price, I got a 6 pack for $80, at Home Depot they run $60 for 2. I have a large dog, a chow who sheds a lot so I need to replace filters often.

Oh, well. Nobody showed by midnight, nobody called by midnight, nobody was answering the telephone at midnight. This is a big "reputable" company, the one who installed the system for us.

Well, I'm going Karen tomorrow morning bright and early. I'll be up. It's too hot to sleep.
You go chew them out Karen 😂
Hopefully by this afternoon you’ll have air conditioning once more . Excessive heat must really add a lot of stress to older people especially. I really feel for you.

I completely agree. Ours is a heat pump with an air conditioner setting and the filter is right at the front so is easily cleaned by us. If it’s dirty, it significantly slows the flow of air being pushed out which is both hard on us and the system itself. After cleaning our filter, the airflow is much stronger. Our unit even sounds different. Cleaning and / or changing the filter is crucial to keep these working properly. Very good point.

Just checking up on you, @jujube ... it's nearly 3 p.m. the next day and I sure hope you have ac again!
If you had to go Karen on 'em, was it effective? :)
I just did go Karen. They say we're on "priority" (which I'm pretty sure means they'll ignore us even faster than anyone else) and the tech will be there by five.

Well, finally, blessed cool air. I gave up last night and went across the street to the neighbor's house to sleep in her guest room. Three days of broken promises and empty hopes from the company we've done business with for years.

We called another company today and they were johnny-on-the-spot and fixed our problem. Of course, it cost the gross national product of a small third-world country, but hey, WE HAVE AIR CONDITIONING after three days of high 90's temperature.

You could register a complaint letter, against the unreliable company, with the BBB.

Or even better YELP...more people will know about them
