I know. You folks are a marvel. You've lived through so much turbulence over the decades. I don't know how you do it.
Chic, I think many had parents like mine. Those of us born at the height of the depression grew up knowing what that was all about, but since most were in the same boat, nothing to belly ache about. Which brings up another salient point. Griping, complaining, and the like were never tolerated. We listened, learned, stayed aware and carried on as we were taught to do. Oh, we would question many things, but like my folks, it would be explained fully to us.

I was coddled when I needed it and well-disciplined when necessary. None the worse for wear over it all. Any generation can rise to the occasion if it has to.

I'd wager, there are significant numbers more at 50-59 or even younger that won't vote in that poll nor ever admit their age when posting or ever showing a current photo, that are here because of the nicer vibe due to forum policies like no politics and name calling etc. The nature of their postings sometimes gives that away though I'll quietly give them the benefit of doubt.

I wish I was one of them...:D that said I was only 58 when I joined this forum

I'm not convinced.

I think there are a lot of lurkers and semi-lurkers who are either terribly fearful of revealing anything personal, very socially awkward via text (or perhaps in general), too shy to join in being painfully introverted, feel "better" than the hoi polloi but find their later years becoming very empty, etc. Even the anonymous poll is probably underreporting how many have viewed it.

None of those being negatives particularly, but more inhibitors that result in no or fairly rare "one-sentence" posts. Many of them might open up if there was a way to draw them out, but forums are a push medium. Even the phone works better for them because other people can call them.

These may trend younger, but probably not overwhelmingly as young as their 50s.

I think "the nature of their postings" says a lot more about their communication style within this medium than their age. That "nature" probably has varying impetuses.

Absolutely agree 100%, @dilettante . I've been told (at a work site, not here) that I "type/talk like a millennial." It made me smile, not get all offended. :giggle:
