I'm trying to cut down on salt. Any ideas for a substitute?

I have tried a couple of the commercial blends but wondered if anyone has come up with anything homemade that works?

I don't think this is exactly what you're looking for but these are salt-free
I like making Hors d'oeuvres for myself on Cucumber rounds or on
"Salt-Free Saltines" or "Ritz Crackers With a Hint of Salt"

I melt Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese on the cracker in the microwave 19 sec
Then a dollop of sour cream mixed with garlic and/or herbs , then a dollop of salsa.
I even add an avocado chunk on top.

Notice the sauteed Shrimp on avocado, then on zucchini rounds.

It's basically an electric spoon that mimics the taste of salt even though you're eating a low sodium diet.

"The idea, as Reuters puts it, is that it passes a small electric current to “concentrate sodium ion molecules on the tongue,” enhancing salty flavor. It’s like techno-umami. The company says the goal is to get people to eat healthier by letting them eat low-sodium food without being sad about how unsalty it is."

Many may have an adversion to putting something powered by eletricity in their mouths, think of how people felt about electric tooth brushes early on.

It's made by a Japanese Company Kirin. Not sure it's available in North America yet as it's fairly new but something you might want to look into should you end up on a low sodium diet.

For some reason food does not taste as good as it once did. I may have had a mild case of Covid or maybe its the medication I am on. I need to eat whether I'm hungry or not in order to take certain pills. I never add salt but some of what I eat already contains salt. Just trying to make my meals more appealing.

Wow! That is fascinating. Not sure I'm quite ready for it but maybe if I become desperate. Thank you.
