In Memory of Johnny Cash (Date of Death 9/12/2003)

Ah yes, loved Johnny. He sang from the heart. When rock music started going into weirdo territory in the early '70s, I went back to my roots and bought a Johnny Cash album. I grew up with old country and gospel, and have never looked back.

The day he died I was in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, with my GF and two other couples. We went up after Labor Day because the prices drop dramatically. My GF and I were in our room when we saw the news on the TV. If memory serves, John Ritter died the same day.

June had just died a few months before Johnny did. I guess life had nothing left to offer him so he went to join her.

RIP Johnny and June.

I was surprised when I realized that it has been 17 years since his death. I accidentally ran into a Johnny one time in Hendersonville. We (my wife and I) had stopped at an ice cream stand to get an afternoon treat. Johnny was at one window and I was at the other window next to him. Johnny told the lady that he wanted to pay for my ice cream. That’s when I looked over to thank him and that’s also when I recognized him. We talked for a few minutes and then he was on his way in his big Black Dodge Durango.

Saw him perform from fairly close seats many years ago, when he just started wearing black etc. marvelous!magnetic! Always one of my favorites.
Then a couple of weeks ago, cable channel that showed old movies had an old Colombo movie with Johnny Cash as a guest star. Was wonderful to see him and Peter Falk again, looking so young.

911, I love that story. I'm guessing that Johnny Cash offered to pay for your ice cream because you had your police uniform on? I think social media should start a movement that says everybody should give the thumbs up to a police officer whenever they see one. I know there are a very rare few who are jerks but like I said, that's very rare.

I saw that Columbo episode on MeTV either last Sunday or the week before. :)
