Incorrect Internet Websites

Ever run into this......something on the website isn't right, but hasn't been changed. Our local post office hours are like that. The website says it opens at 8AM, whereas it doesn't open until 9AM. While there, I asked the clerk "do you know that this post office website has a different opening time than your sign on the door?" and he said "sorry, can't do anything about that.".

Just how often are websites that places own, check for correct or incorrect information. I do know that many websites, that are owned by places, have to pay someone to check and/or correct something wrong on the site.

We ordered something on a website and, after ordering the item, the ordering information states that the item is "out of stock currently". Many websites won't let a person order an item that is not available aka backordered, but others let you order the item and then you find out later. That just happened to us with Hoover (Vacuums). Both parts we ordered were not available (out of stock) and they didn't even call us or e-mail us stating that.

This all can get rather frustrating!

I agree, businesses should have their websites checked regularly and update the info when needed. Not that long ago I looked at my bank's weekend hours and they were supposed to be open on a Saturday. Went there and they were closed. Monday when I went again I told them about their website and they apologized and said they'd check it.....I haven't looked at the site since, but if it's not corrected I really wouldn't be surprised.

One thing I've learned, don't trust anything online to be definite, if a site says a store has a certain item, or even if you call a store and are told by the employee that they have a certain item, you can go there to buy it and they won't have it available.....take everything with a grain of salt. Don't expect too much and you won't be too disappointed.

Yea, I love it (being sarcastic here) when I see something online, go to the nearby store to look at it and then told "that item is only available online". Some websites use to say "Online Only" or "Store Only", so there was no problem. But, many don't state that anymore.

In CR's example, the merchant is pretty slick to complete the order, get the money and then mention that the item is out of stock.

I usually have it happen when I check the individual Walmart store website to see if an item is in stock and then make a run to the store and find out they don't have the item.

It doesn't happen often but it is annoying. I think that SeaBreeze has the right idea, lower your expectations and go with the flow.

Sometimes there's an option to look up your local store and they tell you if that particular store has it, but even then you don't know for sure until you physically go there.

A long time ago I ordered something online and paid for it, then got an email saying the item was backordered and asked if I would like to cancel the order or wait two weeks for it, so I chose to wait. Well, weeks went by, no delivery, and I ended up cancelling the order anyway. At least they credited my credit card properly and I wasn't out any cash.

Just imagine if airlines or train schedules were not continually updated. Confusion would abound and there would be thousands of dissatisfied passengers.

I had exactly that happen this past summer. In this case a Bird Bath. Found it online, checked the nearest store who had it, which was in another county, then having learned from past experience, I rang the store and asked if they had it physically in stock. I was assured they had not one but 3 . I drove over there, only to be told that , they didn't have it, in fact after a lot of investigation at my insistence, I was told they'd never had it , and whoever had told me on the phone they did was wrong!!
I asked if they could find out if the next nearest store had it ( 40 miles away)... no they couldn't do that they said.. I explained that I'd driven from X town in the next county , and didn't want to risk driving yet another 40 miles in case the same thing were to happen, but no, they just shrugged and said there was nothing they could do... Awful customer service!!

Agreeing with all above, & add the peeve of businesses not taking down their web page when they close. Have had the experience of going to see what I thought would be an interesting place only to find a closed sign or vacant storefront. & times when I called ahead to avoid that happening, to hear the number is disconnected or no longer in service. Seems to me like all these kinds of things have seriously eroded my trust in all businesses in general.
