Indian man wears gold face mask to ward off coronavirus

An Indian man said he paid about $4,000 for a bespoke gold face mask to protect him from the coronavirus raging in the country.

The precious metal covering weighs 60 grams (two ounces) and took craftsmen eight days to make, said businessman Shankar Kurhade, from the western city of Pune.

Obviously, someone can have more money than common sense.

And how does he breathe thru this?

I'm just thinking that even when this awful virus does not discriminate you still have people who almost want to say look at me and my 'mask', look what I can afford, look how much wealthier I am than you, I'm different from you. Perhaps he could have used the money for face masks much needed by health professionals etc. Bet he could have bought quite a lot with the money he paid for his mask and still have a mask or more for himself. Some people .........
Just a thought

"When going out, the 49-year-old said he likes to adorn himself with gold jewellery weighing a kilogramme, including a bracelet, necklace and rings on each finger of his right hand. Kurhade -- whose company makes industrial sheds -- said he got the idea for the gold face mask after seeing a media report about a man wearing one made from silver. "People are asking me for selfies," he said. "They are awestruck when they see me wearing the gold mask in markets."

My guess is egomania. No cure for that.

At least one American is reputed to own a gold toilet. Doesn't mean whatever goes in there doesn't stink - or that it's more efficient at disposing of it.

IMHO, people struggling to find a way to spend extra money should have their drivers steer away from gold artisans and toward children's hospitals.
