Inherited World War II Photos

Among my deceased father's effects were some photos he took in the South Pacific on New Caledonia during World War II.
I don't know any of the people in the photos. I've reached the age where I'm trying to get rid of all my possessions except the bare necessities and I can barely manage to take care of those. Is there any organization like the American Legion or VFW that would want them?

Try writing or e-mailing the National WWII Museum. They collect pictures and artifacts from WWII and display them online and at their museum.

Great idea! I think they'd be fascinating.
Perhaps a special section needed? To allow for easier viewing by others?
One that separated the different arenas and parts of the world, they were taken, possibly?

I think the first suggestion posted about giving them to the World War II Museum is the best. People can look at them there. I’m not able to cope with a lot of work or inquiries or correspondence about them myself.

Thanks for this info. I will try that. I notice your avatar is the Marines. I always thought World War III would be between the U.S. and another country like Russia but a Naval officer friend tells me it will likely be between the ideologies of Islam and the West per the book called Clash of Civilizations. The first battle the U.S. ever fought was between the Marines and the Muslims of Tripoli and the last battle will be between middle east Muslims like Iran and their allies which does include Russia. Of course no one can tell the future so who knows?

I had a long post written out, but decided to delete it. I don’t think it was written very well and a lot of readers wouldn’t have understood it.

I have read the story of Tripoli. It was assigned to us at the Naval Academy. We (students) all had to lean the history of the Marines, so that story makes good reading.

When nuclear bombs and missiles start raining down on the world, it may very well be the beginning of the end. It’s hard to imagine that if the U.S. and Russia begins a nuclear war that the other country, China would not also become involved and if that should happen, all hell would break loose.

I’m not a military scholar and the world seems complicated. I hope the military academies have more clarity. Putin and Kim Jong Un defy logic. China has stayed out of everybody’s wars so far and built up their own trade and military. Bush and Obama seemed uninformed and the American public is clueless about the Muslim Brotherhood’s plan for taking America from within using our own liberal laws and freedoms. I think you are right about the use of nukes being the end but I wonder about the use of nano-technology that could beam EMPs toward America and disable our electrical grid and digital electronic devices. Americans would go crazy without their smart phones. Of course some of them are going crazy from using them now.
