Interesting article says that the death rate per million miles travel has increased this year

The article examines death rates that have gone up for a number of different reasons, but focuses on traffic deaths. The general slant of the article is that all of these increased death rates are related to the Covid pandemic. It states that it doesn't understand the connection between the pandemic and increased death rates per million miles but has a conjecture that the percentage of motorcycle miles has increased.

Another thing might be that people are avoiding mass transit and people who've been riding public transit are now driving after many years of not doing so. I also know that freeways are less clogged here than they were before increasing the overall average speed which would increase the fatalities per accident since many would happen at higher speeds.
