Interesting watching society go about its business

I rarely venture into the CBD.
Today I have and am having lunch at a popular food hall.
Lunchtime and all the office workers have descended on the place.
5 days a week this goes on. All of them immaculately attired.
The majority of them talking shop.
There is a very distinct divide between blue-collar and white-collar workers.
Two distinct classes.
When was working it was down to the corner store for a quick takeaway and drink. Everyone in hi-vis attire, dirty, greasy and unkempt

During my working years, we had a large customer service call center that employed hundreds of young entry level employees.

While they were working it was a very well integrated group with a common focus but on breaks and during lunch the cafeteria was self segregated by race and often by gender to the extreme.

I always thought that was interesting, I’m not sure what it means but it did seem to be a natural and relaxed atmosphere.

Forty to fifty years ago those white collared types were called "Yuppie," an acronym for young urban professionals. It gained popularity in the 1980's to describe young, college-educated adults with well-paying jobs who lived and worked in a city. CBD describes them perfectly. CBD is also the acronym for the medical name we know as cannabis, cannabidiol. Although Betrics CBD probably means Central Business District.

The term "blue collar" is a descriptive phrase that emerged in the 1920's, stemming from the sturdy, blue denim labourers typically wore to hide dirt and grease. There has never been a single acronym for "blue collar" workers as a group. There was, for a short period, when hi-viz vests and hard hats started to appear, a smutty name, "Working Stiffs." It related to the male's wedding tackle and if you are still confused, what a sheltered life you have lived.

Keen observations B. My husband and I used to enjoy people watching. I still do sometimes.
To this day, I enjoy people watching. Perhaps being a nurse contributes to that, as I do try to figure people out. Where they live, what they do for a living, etc. Passes the time nicely for me.
Walk around the supermarket wearing a fedora hat and you will not only get watched, stared at would be a better description, you will be approached. Then, when something about the hat is about to come out, they see the two tone shoes. The reaction is priceless!
