We always go out of town to join the extended family for Christmas. My SIL has her kids prior to the Christmas holiday so we are leaving for Florida on Dec. 22 and returning on Dec. 25. Trust me, there is no better day to travel than Christmas day. We aren't really big on the actual holidays... just time with the family.

Anyone else traveling for Christmas?

About an hour each way on Christmas eve. We'll be taking grands back after they've stayed over Sunday and Monday of Christmas week. Dds in-laws have a "pig picking" every Christmas eve. They live close by DD. It's only inside if weather is bitter cold. Many years its cold but nice by a fire.

Pig Picking ?

I thought you may ask. 😊
It's a barbecue. In this part of the south they cook a pig on a big grill made for this. It cooks all day then they take gloved hands or tools and break up the meat into chunks and shreds of delicious pork. The sauce on the side is distinct to eastern NC. A vinegar base, not like a red sauce.
It's pot luck too. Everyone brings sides and everyone eats too much!

I'm off to Melbourne with my youngest son and sister. Going for a big family reunion with my eldest son. Eldest sister is having it at her place, there will be about 16 people in all. We all chip in and take something to fill the table. We'll be there until 26th. Hope the Hot weather holds off.

For Sure! Going on a 2 week cruise and then touring Southern Florida for 2 weeks. I'm getting away from this snow and those terrible politically correct citizens in my country who are trying to tell me that the correct term for this time of the year is "Mid Winter Festival." Apparently, I'm not supposed to call it "Christmas." Calling it Christmas might offend somebody who is a none Christian. To that I say "HUMBUG!"

camping in winter, wow... I hope you feel well enough to enjoy your time...(y)
Well technically, We have been camping everyday the last several years... Living in a set-up 5th wheel at our house rebuild... But we have another camper for travel adventures and get aways.. This summer we took the grandson for 3 1/2 weeks, 2100 miles, 9 different camp sites in 6 different states. This is just us, 3 different campgrounds, 2 new ones and DW favorite beach front place to start the new year.

well good luck to you, I admire your fortitude after all your injuries....

Yeah, and it's a doozy. Traveling out to my sister's house in the Phoenix area. It's 1,350 miles one-way. But there's a special added twist. I'm boarding Jackie, my parrot, with an avian vet in Kansas City. So I have to take a roundabout way to get there. That adds on another 6 hours one-way. And I'm alone - no second driver.

Back in 2019, I drove - again alone - from my sister's house to home, all 1,350 miles, in one shot. Napped in my car for about 20 minutes somewhere in Oklahoma, I think. I won't be doing that again; will definitely be stopping off for the night.
