Is apple cider vinegar effective?

I read it's good for sore throats, so I ordered some. Now I am not sure what to do! Do you gargle with it or drink it?
That would be a gargle. This site lists a bunch of things for sore throats, and a few ways to use the vinegar are listed.
How to Get Rid of a Sore Throat: 27 Remedies for Pain & Cures
If you're not comfortable opening the link, it says this under the vinegar section:

Apple cider vinegar

Vinegar is acidic and can kill bacteria in the throat, and also coat and soothe a sore throat. It may also loosen phlegm that may be irritating the throat.
  • Use as a gargle - mix 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with 8 ounces of water.
  • This also can be combined with 1 teaspoon of salt for a saltwater vinegar gargle (gargling with warm salt-water remedy).
  • You also can add 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with 1 tablespoon of honey to your tea (see gargling with warm water remedy).

I knew a guy who swore by apple cider vinegar. Every time I saw him, he tried to get me interested in taking it, so I bought a bottle. I just couldn't find a way to incorporate it into my diet every day.

I hope you have better luck with it.

ACV is good for a lot of things but you should always brush your teeth after having some since it can corrode your teeth. It will eat the enamel away. It’s very good for g.e.r.d., healing stomach ulcers etc.

I've used Bragg's ACV for years. Used it for years for sore knees and feet when working long hours in a factory. Mix a shot in a glass of water before taking internally. It's so strong that if you put it in your mouth straight, you'll never try it again.
Now I use it to get rid of age spots and styes. Keep it away from your eyes though.
My husband takes a spoonful everyday day and he sometimes sounds like a horse whinying. I use ACV in my coleslaw and salad dressing. It’s good for a lot of things including oral thrush, candida and athletes foot.

I'm on the fence about it.

The darned stuff seems to be promoted for any possible affliction or physical limitation one might imagine. I'd like to think that some of them are real, but I can't find any reason why it would be any better than plain old white vinegar at almost everything aside from flavor.

I use it for acid reflux. It is the only thing that works for me anymore. I use a small glass, about 5 oz., cover the bottom maybe 1/4 inch with the vinegar and fill the rest of the glass with water. Drink it fast because it tastes terrible and probably not good for tooth enamel. Really settles the GERD though when I have a flare up.

Organic vinegar has the mother which is what the vinegar is made from. It’s much more nutritious than white vinegar.

When they talk about ACV holistically, they mean "Organic ACV with the Mother".
Exactly. White vinegar just was momentarily discussed for other uses
