Is Joining Facebook/Meta Difficult?

I've never wanted or intended to join Facebook (Meta now, I guess?), but there's finally a local chapter of the Silent Book Club in my town and the Silent Book Club's website said in order to join, contact the chapter's host and when I tried that, it took me to Facebook. I sent a request for help contacting the chapter host to the main SBC website but if I never hear back (you know how that goes sometimes, sigh), will it be an ordeal to join Facebook?

I was also thinking about seeing if I can contact the local chapter through Craigslist or Nextdoor; those might be easier to join than Facebook?

Any advice appreciated, thanks.

And then they have you. Mwa-ha-haaa! :ROFLMAO:
Yeah, I know, that's why I've been reluctant to join but if that's the only way I can join this local book club, I'm really thinking about it.

The main reason I've been reluctant was I heard that it's just about impossible to close out a Fb account.

Well, I;m going to wait a bit, maybe the SBC main site'll get ahold of me and help.

Thanks all.

that went straight past me...when did they change FB to Meta ?

Facebook does have you jump through some hoops, but it's certainly doable. See this page-->> Deactivating & Deleting Your Account
Thanks, Nathan, helpful.

We'll see what happens, if I ever hear back from the main site. Another thing that occurred to me: I read an article a while back that said to be careful of local groups that you can only join through Facebook; apparently, it's a way for local chapters to get around the main policy of "new members welcome, anyone can join" and only let their friends/acquaintances actually join. So we'll see.

You don't have to Google (or use any search engine) to go to a website. Just type "facebook.com" into your browser's address bar.

I've noticed on some FB pages, I want to see if it is my relative but in their information, it is all left blank. Don't put pictures of family on it. I know some do, but just don't. You can do Facebook safely and enjoy it. I have done Facebook shortly after it came out.

When I do that, all I get is a page wanting me to either sign in or create a new account. (I only found out that the local chapter of the book club was through facebook by going on the main, worldwide book club site.)

Well, if you've not already joined, you'd have to do that. You cannot get into Facebook without having joined.

Since I've already joined, I just get the Facebook.com login page (since I log out between sessions).

You can join using your real name or some other combination. Eg, if your real name is Ripley Jones, join under Ripley Smith, or some other combination. Don’t fill in any schools or where you grew up, etc, etc. If you thought you’d meet some of these people later, say it’s your maiden name. They really want my phone number for ‘my’ security, just in case I get locked out. It’s not happening. Just my advice,

What @Jules said. My birthdate on Facebook is 1/1/1901. LOL.

Also, go through your privacy area and make it so that people can't see stuff you want to keep private.

Well if you get yourself thrown into "Facebook jail", like my son and a good friend have, twice...they'll close your account for you. :ROFLMAO: Actually they suspend your account for a designated period. But the FB help section should have instructions on how to delete your account. I wasn't crazy about joining FB either, but my loved ones are on there.

I've also found "new" relatives on there and am able to keep in touch with several family members spread across the country. I also created and manage a family photo group that is very appreciated. I've cut down my FB time significantly since being more active here, but I stay because of family and old friends from our Eons days.
